High-volume guys: Your favorite product lines?

The move from strictly retail, to dealer work has been one of the best moves ever for me. But now I find myself fighting to pound DOWN product costs. But going with a high-volume bulk product represents a large investment and if you don't like the product you get, you're usually stuck with A LOT of it. What products are you guys liking for high-volume work?

And I'll admit, there are some things (i.e. M105/205) twins that I feel are worth the extra cost because of their time savings. What are your opinions.

Auto Magic makes pretty good stuff for that sort of thing. For volume work,

you really don't need a huge selection of products. Just some good degreaser,

window cleaner, dressing, air freshener, and some lacquer thinner for

stubborn areas.

Chances are, if you contact the rep in your area they can hook you up with

some samples and you can decide if you like them or not.

I know there are some high volume shops in my area that use Pro products and

Malco products, but I don't have much experience with either of those so I can't

speak too much for them. And Zep also makes some stuff decent stuff you can

pick up pretty easily.

If you really want to save some time (some people are going to think I'm a hack

for even mentioning this) use acid to clean wheels. Spray it on and pressure wash

it off. You have to be careful with it, but you'd be surprised at how much time

that'll save. Just a thought.

Best of luck to you sir!

I use mainly carbrite and Pro products. I use Carbrites "Clearmagic" tire dressing, "Clean All" APC/degreaser, "Protect All" interior dressing, "Eradicator" tar remover, and "Perfect Cut" polish. For a one stage polish on a basic dealer car I like to polish with Perfect cut on a polishing pad and remove it with a spray wax...leaves a slick finish.

I like the PRO spray wax, wheelie clean, and Preemo dressing (cut down), as well as their super duty degreaser. I actually prefer the pro interior cleaner over the Carbrite stuff, but I have a 45 gallon drum of Clean All. Most of the stuff is available in 1 gallon sizes so I buy a gallon to try it out first.

I used mainly Car Brite and Auto Magic when I did high volume. Degreaser, wheel cleaner, and soap is what I think I went through most often. We ordered most of our stuff in 50 gal drums.

If I were ding high volume now I'd be using a lot of the Meguiar's Detailer line. Their APC's, Glass, Dressings, Polishes, Wheel Cleaners, soaps all work very well and are very cost effective. You'll also want to check out the new MF D/A system when it comes out too. As far as high volume goes I don't think I'd be using M105/M205 much.

I think ADS carries most if not all of the Detailer Line. they have the matching bottle too which is great to have.

Having either a mixing system or products mixed in 5 gal dispensers saves a lot of time too so I'd also look into those. I've used both and the mixing system was the fastest, but the up front cost is pretty steep. We'd spend a few minutes every Friday after work filling all the 5 gal dispensers up which usually lasted the week.

Hope this helps,

Rasky

When i was detailing 10 years ago doing major production work, we used Automagic and Zep stuff. Automagic wheel acid, compound, AIO banana wax, tire shine (still like thier stuff), and window cleaner. The Zep purple APC was great. We had 55 gallon drums and would fill them up into 5 gallon dispensers (like the water dispensers with a spigot on the bottom). Worked great.

Now I am using most of the Megs Detailer line for production stuff. I did just get some Optimum Opti Seal and some Poorboys SSR2.5 that I am going to try out for One steps, and some DP Poli Seal for my new sealant of choice :)

When considering a product line, service can be very important. Having product shipped could cost an arm & a leg. Look for a line that will serve your needs. I had my Auto Magic salesman visit our shop sometimes twice a week as we would run out of some stuff unexpectedly. We also gave the scraps to CarBrite, Pro & Ardex because they carried certain unique products that worked great. I'd also check out 3D Car Care as their products are great and pretty economical.

JohnKleven - Does MarkV come to you or do they ship to you?

Make sure your products come sealed because I caught two of them watering products down before!!! (interior dressings)
