My new car will be arriving next week, and i plan on cleaning and "detailing" it so i will be able to maintain it easier and maintain its best condition for the long run. What will be the steps or what are the steps should i do for detailing a brand new car?

my plan is to:

1. Wash -- prep for claying

2. Clay (meguiar's) --- upon reading on detailing i learnt that even new cars get swirls and stuff

3. Polish (still wondering which to get) -- depending on the swirl marks

4. Carnuba wax (meguiar's) -- as a protectant or after polish?

Can anyone criticise my steps? or recommend a better way to detail the new car? its black too.. so i really want to protect the paint from day 1 so it will be easier to take care along the way. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Thank you for the welcome BigAl3. and sorry for my late reply because of our time difference. i will be doing it by hand.. i have a 7" buffer, but it is a cheap one with no speed control, meaning it only have one speed.. so nothing professional at all.. i'll see if i can put it so use.

I am just wondering if the steps i take are correct.. thanks a lot

1. wash - megs gold class or nxt wash

2. clay - megs smooth surface clay kit

3. polish - swirlx (less aggressive) and ultimate compound (more aggressive)

4. wax/sealant - megs gold class and/or nxt 2.0

Thanks BigAl3, since its a new car, maybe SwirlX should do the job... and that can be applied by and right? And lots of good stuff i heard about NXT 2.0, so i'll get that. Thanks a lot
