Hey..Long Time No Detail

Well........it has been awhile since the last time I posted up any of my work.....mainly because I haven't really had any work to post up :lol

I have been working through a bad knee and some Carpal Tunnel bugging my right arm so I have been only doing pretty much regular washes and some wash and waxes.

Feelin better so I figured I would go all out on ths 1984 Ferrari 512 BBi. It is a re-paint so I didn't have great paint to work with from the get go. Lots of sags in the paint, scratches and stains.

I colorsanded some areas and then buffed the whole car with a wool LC cutting pad and Hi-Temps Extreme Leveler.

This removed 80% of the sanding marks so I then went over th epaint with an orange LC power pad and Hi-Temps Magnum. This heat induced leveler combined with the orange pad removed all remaining sandingmarks and gave me a great surface to polish. I used a LC white polishing pad, 1200 rpm's and Menzerna IP.

Finished my rotary work with a LC black finishing pad and Menzerna FP. Hit some areas with my Cyclo and FP again.

Hand applied AIO and then topped half the car with FMJ and the other half with a new QD that is a polymer/carnauba emulsion. it is so much more than a QD because it actualy seals paint for up to 5 months, or so the maker claims (a claim I have not yet been able to verify). It is very unique in that it has no solvents, hence it can be actually layered (if you're into that stuff) and it also has UV blockers in it :bigups

Poorboys BnB on the tires and I cleaned and re-dyed some trim with TOL's Trim Re-dye kit.

I am in the midst of testing all sorts of things for all sorts of folks so I hope to post some of these up soon. I am working with Cyclo Tools on something that I am kinda excited about :)

I only have AFTER shots as it was so cloudy and overcast when I started that none of the paint imperfections showed up

As always a superb job Mr. Orosco. More importantly glad to see you back.

excellent work on a truely spectacular vehicle ... it's a shame someone mistreated it.

The Menzerna product line is really nice, isn't it?

Who makes the polymer/carnauba QD that you tested?

Hey all, thanks for the good words on the Ferrari detail. I hope the guy is not drivin it today because we got heavy rains

NYV6 - Yeah the Menzerna line is a great all around product line. I have very little bad to say about them.cept maybe for the price ouch!

Poorboy - Figured you would like those tires..or is it "tyres"? :)

Thanks also for the welcome back and the well wishes. Very much appreciated.

Anthony

Welcome back to DC.

The Ferrari looks great. Can you give us a clue as to what you are testing and will be looking forward to hearing about? I understand if you cannot say, as you are a true professional.

I missed you. You add a very professional and intelligent front to this or any forum you participate in. Please take care with the carpal tunnel thing.

Hello Eric,

I am being sent some products to test out for Optimum, a paint polish and some dressings, tire and interior.

Irene is sending me some odds and ends to test out for her, I think she said a foaming interior cleaner and some wash mitts.

Cyclo Tools contacted me, which I am very humbled by, to try out some new cleaning brushes and also some new pads for the Cyclo. I also talked with them about something unique for the Cyclo that just "might" do away with the need for a rotary, I can't make any promises until my idea actually becomes reality and I test it out. So fo now "mums" the word :)

Thanks,
Anthony

Looks great what did you do to the interior.

Hey Frozen,

Sorry I missed replying to you. I did just a basic interior cleaning because the leather interior is in worse shape than the exterior. The dash is actual leather which is now faded and brittle

So the cleaning has to be light so as not to remove more dye. I am hoping the Dr. will one day do a complete makeover on the car as it sure is beautiful!

andriver - Thank you for the encouraging words :)

Take care,
Anthony

Mr. Orosco- You were surely missed. Have you ever tried Leatherique? It is great stuff. and is specifically for restoring neglected leather. Sounds as if it may help the neglected leather in the ferrari.

Anthony, even as a newbe here I can say welcome back. I read your "story" and was impressed. That was a BIG step and you should be proud of your accomplishments. Thanks too for sharing your expertese with us less experienced beginners.

Thanks :) I have heard great things about Leatherique but have not used it. The leather in the Ferrari though is beyond repair, short of a re-dye.

sgo - Thanks so much for the compliments and if I can be of help please let me know.

Take care,
Anthony

While you may not be interested in a re-dye job, Leatherique does make dye products, too. They will even custom match to a sample.
