Help with cleaning rims on Taurus?

I have a 1999 Ford Taurus that has factory 5 star rims on it. I can not for the life of me get these rims to shine. It looks like the may have been etched previously? What can I do with them to get the spotting out and what can I use to really shine them?

What was the previous method of cleaning and maintenance of the wheels?

What have you tried on the wheels?

I think these wheels are clear coated, if so you can treat the surface as you would paint.



I would try:

Wash/Clean

Clay

AIO

Polymer or wax

I think Eric is probably correct in the fact that your wheels may actually have a clear coat finish, much like the paint on your car.



However, it sounds like the spotting may have damaged and clouded the appearance. That could be a result of applying a wheel cleaner while the wheel is too hot or a number of other reasons.



Most likely the spotting you mentioned may not be able to be removed. Sometimes that happens.



In summary, the best advice is what Eric said; 'treat the wheels as you would paint'
