Hi all. I was having some problems claying my car on saturday. the clay kept sticking and leaving streaks in the paint.. I doubt it was a lube problem, cus I had the bar and the surface of the car extremely well lubricated. the only thing I can think is that the heat was making it sticky. Am I right? unfortunately, I have to do it in the sun, as I have no garage to do it in. :(

If you have a friend with a garage maybe they will let you use it for a couple of hours, cause i don't have have a garage either and i asked a family friend to use his driveway (it has a big tree so there's lots of shade) and he was ok with it.

I had the same problem. I ended up haveing to get up early

and doing it in the morning. My car was still do hot even in the

evening because of sitting in the sun all day.

I have seen clay become sticky if you use a little car wash soap in the water. Some people think that if it is good for color sanding, then it is good for clay. It's not

The soap will often start to break down the polybutene in the clay making it sticky!!

In Japan they don't use lubricant, they just use water. Auto Magic developed the lubricant so that they could make more money selling clay!! (their bar comes from Japan)

I too had that problem with Megs Clay, and switched to Mothers and really like it. Sometimes I will use the lubricant, and sometimes I just run the garden hose keeping it wet. Works either way.

Wheres "thinksnow" when i need him!

Another thing you can do to cool the car off quickly, other than just run the hose over it, is to cover it up with whatever waffle weaves you have, they will aloso absorb the heat rather quickly.....

I too have had problems when I try to clay a car that's hot -- whether using Mothers, ClayMagic, or Autopia clay, and regardless of what lube I use. That's why I bought my EZUp canopy. :up
