Help with Chrome Wheels

We just bought a used car that has 22 inch chrome wheels on it. When looking at the wheels up close I see some black specks that almost look like tar spots. I also see some different spots that almost look like rust. What can I use to get rid of these marks and make the wheels look new again?

Try a clay bar first and then go over them with some Bug and Tar remover. They use a chrome polish on a Mothers Powerball. Seal with a quality paint sealant.

#0000 steel wool with some chrome polish works wonders to get the harder stuff off. Then buff using a powerball with the polish.

I'm always afraid of steel wool - strictly a personal thing - but I'd recommend trying a lot of other stuff first. I'd bet that clay, bug & tar, and your favorite metal polish (I'm partial to Clearkote, FWIW) will do the trick. If you can control the power ball, that's definitely a good next step. I've found using a medium-abrasive paint polish, applied by hand with a terry applicator, to be very effective on chrome. Even though I mostly use Menzerna polishes nowadays, this is the exact reason I keep Poorboy's SSR 2 and 2.5 on the shelf.
