Help with #80 & bug etching

I tried removing all the bug etching with #80 by hand and it didn't work too well. Why??? Is it not abrasive enough or am I doing it wrong? I applied with Meguiar's terry cloth and keep rubbing it until it turned clear. Would scratchX help?

Bug etching will need soemthing a little bit stronger than #80. If I remember correctly, #80 has more fillers than cutting power.

Meguire's #80 (Speed Glaze) is as course as Meguires recommends hand applying. It rates a 4 out of 10 (4/10) on Meguire's abrasiveness scale.

Consider a polisher. If you can't afford a PC and all the wonderfull foam pads, consider something like the Turtle Wax® 6 inch Waxer Polisher.

No variable speed, and you have a limited selection of bonnets, but at 1/5th the cost, I think it's a good introduction. If you find you need more, get a PC, and you really aren't out too much for this polisher.

#80 will work faster in a polisher. But if you still need more, here's Meguire's line ranked by thier abrasiveness scale:

#02 Fine Cut Cleaner (5/10)

#01 Medium Cut Cleaner (6/10)

#83 Dual Action Cleaner/Polish (6/10) - seems to be more popular here than #01 above.

#04 Heavy Cut Cleaner (8/10)

#84 Compound Power Cleaner (9/10)

#85 Diamond Cut Compound (10/10)

You *can* do DACP by hand as long as you keep it to small sections at a time. It takes experience to know when it has broken down and therefor practice. Since it seems you're just trying to recover a small section then you might want to give this a try if you have some already.
