Help: Scratched my Black car !!

Have a Black car and had what looked like water marks on the hood, that would not come out. This morning I tried
some white polishing compound on the spots, without
rinsing the surface first. I then rubbed hard. After removing the polish, the areas are dull and have scratches
in the clear-coat. I’m very upset. Is there anything I can do to restore these areas ???

Thanks !!!

oh wow. u really shouldve washed the paint first. what u did was probably rub dirt into the paint. oh well. next tiem

they can be taken out. i assume u dont own a d.a. polisher. so my next step if i were u is to run into advance or any car store and get some scratchX. its to be used only by hand. its pretty agressive for being a hand product, but u'll probably have to make multiple passes. get a soft terry towel andrub it in good back and forth. then once the scratches are out, get a foam pad and rub it in a circuler motion to bring back some gloss, if any was lost to begin with.

hope this help, theres probably other ways to use scratchX tho, thats my hand method.

keep us posted

Sounds to me like it's the hazing/marring of the rubing compund you used. You need to follow it up with a less aggressive polish and you should be a-okay.

Are products labeled Glaze and Polish the same thing ?
i.e.. I have never used a glaze or polish, why would I want to ?

Will a clay bar get rid of these scratches, as i was going to clay the car soon anyway ?

Thanks, Mike

Not really. A glaze can be considered a polish, but a polish will usually remove stains and/or defects in your finish. A glaze will typically "cover them up" for a short while.
