Help removing wax off of plastic

When I first got my new vehicle, I washed and put a coat of wax on it. By accident I got some wax on the plastic handle on the tailgate (Toyota Tacoma). The wax is white and dried on the black plastic handle. What is the best way of taking the wax off the handle?

Welcome to Autopia Bullet!

A Mr. Clean Magic Eraser (wet with water, wring out excess) is a very good and economical way to remove wax residue from plastic (usually around $1 a piece). Just don't be too aggressive with it or it may take off some color also. Klasse AIO (All in One) usually works as well. Good luck!

Thank you guys very much..I will try the Klasse AIO since I already have some. If that doesn't do the trick, the Mr. Clean eraser is up next

^^thats what I was getting ready to say. Magic eraser should take it right off.

Just make sure you dont rub the paint any with it.

One option to avoid this problem in the future is to apply a dressing to the plastic without buffing, before applying the wax

Excellent point - my contribution is somewhat minor and could be unrelated, but I usually just leave the tape on from buffing if it's a detail with polish. I'm assuming this was just your personal vehicle and since it is new, no polishing was really necessary at the time.

maybe i didn't have a stain but more just dry wax that won't come off, theres just a couple small spots from when i finished one night when it was getting dark, I will give KAIO a shot once the snow clears lol.

Would it be better to dress the plastic before polishing and waxing? Or after polishing, before waxing?

After polishing, and before waxing.

Yet, you shouldn't have to if you're polishing, because it SHOULD be taped off.

Otherwise, he's talking about routine maintenence waxing, which means no polishing.

I would expect that you tape off trim when you polish, otherwise that is a recipe for disaster.

Stained trim, even discolored due to abrasion.

Heard about peanut butter. I use a pencil eraser - magic eraser (the soft plasticky white one from Staedtler works a treat).

TRIMONEX works really well. I wipe down all the plastic/vinyl trim with it prior to applying the Ultima TTGP sealant. It will take care of what's left after doing your body degreasing type prep cleaning (eg. Dawn, CG CW).
