hi all.

I just got my car back from the garage after a suspension upgrade whilst I was away on holiday. It seems that they have done the work and left the car under some trees... as a result I have a number of tree sap marks all over the car. Whats worse is that they have obviously had one of the apprentices' "wash" the car which hasnt helped.

How can I get rid of the tree sap marks ?? (I tried my Finish First Prep and it got rid of a couple of smaller marks, but did nothing with the bigger ones).

Things like this make me wanna cry !! I spent 2days cleaning it before I went away

thanks

I feel your pain. My truck is parked outside 24x7x365 and I'm surrounded by huge oaks. I've been fighting the tree sap war myself. The clay bar has been working for me, it gets it all off. The problem is everytime you clay bar you're also removing any wax protection you may have on the finish. So everytime I clay, I follow up with a coat of Meguiars #26. As you might expect, this process is pretty time consuming. Plus, I'm not sure if the clay bar is safe to use 3-4 times a week. I'm still waiting on answers from the experts on that question.

My chainsaw will take care of a few "problem trees" and I think I'm going to have to buy a cover. A two car detached garage is currently on the top of the "save for home improvement list".

Use bug and tar remover or a claybar like NattyBumpo said for the small sap spots. For large sap deposits, carguy wrote an excellent piece on how to remove them. This is a quote from one of his old posts:

"I know of one clever way that works on large spots - but it might be a pain if you have a bunch'o'small ones. Take a piece of ICE and hold it on the sap for a long time. When the sap gets really cold, it gets much firmer, even brittle. Once it is cold you can often just pop it off with a fingernail. This may leave a tiny bit of residue, but that is much easier to clean than the big spots that just keep smearing all over the place, making matters worse. "

phew...

had a look in my local auto shop today (halfords for all the uk peeps) and thought Id give the new turtlewax product a try. Well, anything was worth a go rather than leaving all the nasty sap marks on the paint .

It worked brilliantly ! It even removed a couple of old spots that I had given up on previously ! What I did was hold the nozzle about 1cm away from the mark and just squirt enough to completely cover the mark. Doing it this way rather than spraying from about 6inches away saved me time and effort, and :D

I then left it on for about 1 to 2 minutes and cleaned it off with a dry cloth. The smaller marks went almost with the first wipe, whilst the bigger marks (around 1 - 2cm) went with a little rubbing.

Now its all back to the way it was when I left it :xyxthumbs and just for good measure Ive left it in the garage with a coat of First Finish on. Will take that off tomorrow night.

So definate thumbs up from me.

Product is called Tar and Bug Remover with a sign on the bottle saying "and tree sap". Its in a black spray bottle and its made by TurtleWax.

YeeHaaaaaa ....!!

I came really close to buying that stuff myself....but thought I'd wait and hear some reviews first. Thanks for the information!
