I used a rotory with a wool pad and SSR3 to cut into really bad paint.. see my post on Click and Brag.... Anyway... i used the SSR3 and wool pad and the speed on like 6! The highest setting. So after the SSR3 the paint was fantastic! A little holigram here and there but no spiderwebs at all. So i used my PC and polishing pad with SSR2 and SSR1 and now i have spiderwebs?>????? The part of the hood that i used the SSR3 on is better than the other spots i did with the PC. I misted the pad on the PC with QD and buffed till it powdered.. Any help? How come it looks better after the SSR3???

This is just speculation at this point, but I am thinking that you are trying to use your PC like a rotary, and are moving around too fast. The PC is MUCH slower than a rotary and the two machines are completely different. First of all, you are very brave to be using your rotary on the highest setting with a wool pad and SSR3. Even experienced pro's don't do that. From now on, I would slow the rotary down to half that speed and allow the polish to do a little more of the work instead of the heat and wool pad like you are now. When polishing with the PC you need to move VERY slowly, thus letting the polish do it's job otherwise you will end up with *hologram* like swirls. What pads are you using on the PC and what speeds?

Does SSR3 contain any fillers? MAybe they were removed by the SSR2/1....just an idea

And yes you are a madman for using SSR3 on a wool pad w/ a rotary.....that's probably enough to remove 400grit sand marks:eek:

I'm curious to see some b4's and afters though....over to click and brag i go......

I use my PC with a yellow meguiars polishing pad and spray a little quick detailer.. then i start out slow and end up with the highest setting and moving the PC rather fast. Like a foot or two every second or so. I stay on the area until it hazes, probably a few minutes per square foot section.

Okay, there's your first problem. You are moving too fast. I'm not familiar with Meg's pads so I apologize for asking where it falls in the aggresiveness scale. Is it a cutting or polishing pad? Since you are doing all the cutting needed with your rotary and SSR3, I would use a good polishing pad with SSR2. Spraying your pad in the beginning is fine and will aid in the priming process. You are doing good by only doing a 2x2 area at a time but you need to slow it down with the movement. Slower is always better with a PC, and always use overlapping passes. The speed should be around 4.5 with just a little bit of pressure applied. Moving at a snails pace, you should slowly decrease the amount of pressure until only the weight of the machine is left and increase the speed to 5. I like to stay on speed 5 because this gives you a longer period of time to work the product in before it dries (hazes) on you. Once it dries to a haze (or starts to dust, depending on the product), stop and remove the excess, inspect your work, and move on. If you still see imperfetions, do the area again. Once you are completely happy with the finish, THEN move to SSR1 with a finish polishing pad using the same process as described above. Just remember to move slowly, patience is the key, the rest will come in time and experience.

I recommend two things for you to do, watch the Meguiar's videos and read the Autopia Guide To Detailing. Both will help you a great deal.

If you think you are moving the PC too fast, than you probably are. I personally use the PC in snail mode. Especially when the PC is cranked up to 5 or 6. The machine needs to work.

Some suggestions to add to that very sound advice-

â€Â¢Apply Machine Polish at the rate of approximately 0.5 to 1.0-inch per second.

â€Â¢By using a slower speed (# 3 â€â€œ 4 on the machine speed dial) enables a polish to be worked efficiently into to the surface. Do not exceed speed # 5.5 for any length of time.

â€Â¢Excessive pressure can cause unnecessary abrasion and scratches in the paint and may cause the motor to stall.

Maybe a dumb point, but make sure you use enough product also. I like to make an "X" on the pad.

You probably already know this though...

The pics of the SSR3 look really good though :)

HOOD IS DONE!
