Help Please!!!!

I need help and in a bad way. I just had a very bad experiance with DACP. I was detailing my moms 99 bright red GMC 1500 Extended Cab Truck this weekend and got it all washed and clayed, then tried DACP. I have rubbing marks all over the painted surface. Their the kinda like swirls, and a bunch of lines all over the place. I used my PC on 5 speed, DACP, and an orange cutting pad. I got rid of all the serious imperfections, and paint transfer from someone that had a white vehicle. It all looked great until I put my new duel 500 watt each Craftsman light set together. That just highlighted everything. I tried DACP on the greed Sonus pad, then 3M Perfect It III Machine Glaze on both green and blue pads. Nothing is working! What gets me is that at first I thought it might be from her driving through the woods as the scratches are not really on the hood or roof, just the whole side of the truck on both sides. Can anyone help me please? I don't want to give back a truck that looks like crap. Thanks a million in advance! :bow :xyxthumbs

First, not everyone has 500 watt lamps they carry around so they can look at their car. So the real test is natural sunlight. If the car looks good out in natural sunlight then leave it at that.

Second, many times attempting to polish paint can actually result in more imperfections being exposed.

Third, DACP when used with an orange pad can be fairly aggressive and needs to be followed by a polishing pad and either more DACP or perhaps something milder like Light Cut or FP.

Lastly, if these are brush marks then a rotary polisher may be needed as the PC does not generate enough heat and friction to properly abrade away the paint where the scratches are located. If this is not an option then opt to use a glaze/filler.

Pretty much what Anthony said. Follow with DACP and a polishing pad. DACP will lightly haze the black paint on my 626 but on a black BMW, no hazing. It just depends on the paint. On my car, I follow with #80 Speed Glaze and a polishing pad.

BTW, did you check the paint beforehand with the 500 watt lights? The problems might have been in the paint all along and not caused by the orange pad and DACP.

Anthony Orosco, actually, Yes, I thought everybody DID have 500Watt Halogen Lamps. :D Well, everybody in here anyway. I got the awsome idea right here in these rooms. Hell, $24.99 at Sears on sale. I'll use some more DACP and a the blue Polishing pad SONUS followed by a grey pad of the same. Then add another coat of 3M PI III MG.

ScottWax, I didn't have the lamps until this weekend. I started this project last weekend. I should have looked for the marks before hand. Their all over the side doors and bed, but not on the hood or roof. They look like machine marks though, mixed with tree branch scratches. I'll give it another go round. Then I'll top it with NTX.

Thanks alot both of yall for the tips, keep em comming. You guys are great!

I tried the blue Sonus Polishing pad and DACP w/ a 50/50 IPA mix to wipe down afterward and nothing. Still there. Can anyone in here recommend a real good filler glaze? I tried that 3M PI III Machine Glaze and their still visable. I'll have her truck wheeled out in the spring, just want to make it look nice for now. Thanks Again.

I don't think the blue pad was aggressive enough. I would have tackled it with the orange pad, and then followed up with the green. You may have to make several passes with DACP before you see the results you are looking for.

You can only remove/fill so much with buffing. If it's bad enough, a little touch up paint may be in order, but I would certainly try a more aggressive approach with the polishing first.

Sorry, I should have read your original post before replying. If you've already used the orange pad with DACP and truly feel you have given it your all, a rotary would be the next step but if you don't know what your'e doing with a rotary, stay away from it. I am thinking a few more passes with DACP/orange pad would make it better and if not, like I said, touch up paint is the only thing left.

Thanks for the speedy replies all. I think I am about done using DACP for now. I spoke with Phil over at ProperAutoCare.com. Unfortunatly, Wednsday, this site was down. I needed something and fast! I ordered the Menzerna Intensive Polish and Menzerna Polish II. I'll give that a whirl. I got it yesterday, 2nd day air'd it here. I'll be trying it out later today hopefully. Had a really bad muscle spasm in upper back, so been out of commission for last couple of days. Nothing like jumping out of perfectly good airplanes to screw your back up.

:D :bounce :LOLOL Any suggestions on this stuff would be welcome.

BTW, has anybody had any luck with that Wurth stuff for cleaning out your AC intake? My Sporttrac has a reallymusty smell when you turn it on. Hopeing this stuff kills it. Thanks again for all your replies.:xyxthumbs

LongArm- If the marring really is from the #83 you should be able to polish it out if you use aggressive enough measures. I'd say the #83-MG was just too big a jump. Adding intermediate steps will help, but those tree scratches are just beyond PC-work.

The Wurth stuff worked for me, but the musty smell did eventually come back (some vehicles just get it and some don't). Be sure to use as much as you're supposed to (IIRC the whole can). Using too little defeats the purpose of the whole thing.
