Ok, I recently painted the truck and color sanded with 2000 grit paper. After that I moved to a 3M buffing compound with a foam pad and got all the sand scratches out. The buffing compound left behind swirls. I moved over to the 3M Perfect It III Machine Glaze with the recommended foam pad. It basically removed all the swirls but left behind a hologram look. I tried a spot with 3M Hand Glaze and applied a coat of wax over the top of that but it doesn't seem to be coming out. Also I have tried Meguiars Scratch X (I believe that is the name of it), Meguiars #9 swirl remover. I have been using microfiber cloths to wipe everything clean. I ended up washing the truck today and dried it with a brand new Meguiars microfiber drying towel and there are swirls all over the thing. I am at a loss of what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions?? I have been working on trying to get this stuff out for over a week. I'm actually getting to the point where I'm ready to just re-clear it and leave the orange peel. I had looked at the porter cable polisher and also noticed on an advertisment on this site about the Sonus swirl buster polish. Also I would like a recommendation on what pads to use for final polishing. I had been using the 3M that has an egg carton look to them. I live in southern Alabama and if there is anyone around that could help me let me know. I would be willing to make a drive to get the problem fixed. I've spent too much time on this thing to let it have swirls in it. Also another thing that I am sure has something to do with my problem, I haven't had a shop that I could pull the truck in to do the polishing.

xtremekustomz- The PI-III MG 05937 is one of my all-time favorite products, I love the stuff. It *can* be tricky to finish perfectly by rotary though, your problem isn't unique. I always follow my 05937 rotary work with the same product via either PC or Cyclo. That takes care of the holograms and leaves a very nice finish on most paints.

For final finishing with that product on the rotary I use either the white Lake polishing pad or a Meguiar's 8006. Via PC I use either of those or a Griot's orange (and *only* that orange pad, others are different). By Cyclo I use the green Cyclo pads and that's my favorite way to finish with 05937.

FWIW I never liked the 3M pads, period. But hey, that's just me.

IMO you oughta get a PC or a Cyclo to use for the occasions when you get holograms. Nothing wrong with the PI-III MG....except that it's getting hard to find. But again, plenty of people get holograms with it by rotary. Not *always*, but it does happen.

FWIW, on many paints I like to follow 05937 with a finer polish, usually the Pro version of 1Z MP. I never use the 3M IHG...I prefer other products of that type. My fave is Meg's #5, great stuff.

EDIT: Additional thought- many repaints take a long time to harden up to the point that you can get a perfect finish, they're just too soft for that level of polishing. I've had to wait as long as five weeks or so until the paint got hard enough to work (that was RM brand b/c). Waxing too soon can result in the paint *staying* that soft too.

I'd use the #5 or IHG for the new paint's first 3-4 months; I don't wax fresh repaints lest I intefere with the outgassing/curing.
