Help on scratches!

I found some scratches and marks on the hood and tried to remove them. I clayed, I tried 3M Imperial Hand Glaze, and then I pulled out the big guns: McGuires Fine Cut Cleaner.

Normally I'm a Zaino user, by the way.

The cleaner removed the marks on the paint, but left tons of micro-scratches. This stuff is meant to be used with a buffer, but I used it by hand -- which has worked well in the past, but not so great this time.

From what I've read here, the only way to remove those scratches is to have it professionally buffed out. Does that sound about right?

My paint was nearly scratch free, so the scratched up area looks REALLY bad.

Search the archives for some threads using SMR by hand.

It can be done. You have to work the product in to break down the abrasives until they get smaller. Then this will remove the slight hazing.

I searched the archive in an attempt to educate myself. I discovered that I should try to remove swirl marks/scratches with the least abbrasive product first:

LIGHT:

Pinnacle Paint Cleanser

P21S Paint Cleaner

MEDIUM:

McGuires #9 Swirl Mark Remover

3M Swirl Mark Removeer

HEAVY:

3M Finesse-IT II Finishing Material

The stuff that made most of the scratches was McGuires Fine Cut Cleaner (Heavy), so I think I should be fine if I go with #9 and maybe some cleanser, followed by Dawn and re-application of Zaino.

Thanks for the help folks! I used McGuires #9 and it took most of the scratches out. There are still some surface scratches, but the hazing is gone and you can only see the scratches at certain angles. A coat of Zaino helped when I was done, and I'll start layering it on every day or so (need that ZFX!).

Thanks!
