Help on detailing plastic fairings

I have a 9yr old Triumph Sprint that is showing it's age with some swirl marks and scratches in the paint.

I've tried probably about $100's worth of OTC products to take the swirls and scratches out, and not a one of em worked.

So, I talked with my local paint and body shop, which just happens to be owned by an old highschool buddy (which I should've come to before I bought the OTC crap).

They gave me a 3000 pad, and told me to clean the surface, make sure the wax is off, and start doing light wet sanding with the 3000 pad. It created a haze on the paint like they said it would, and then I used Mequires scratchX, then Mequires 3 step system.

Well, the swirl marks are gone, but, now I have scratch marks from the 3000 pad, but, really shiney paint?

Am I not using a good enough polish to cut out the small scratches left by the 3000 pad before I wax it?

Some pics would help. If you're still seeing scratches, your initial

compounding step isn't doing the trick. How are you doing this 3 step?

By hand?

By hand, yes. I don't have a machine yet. I'll work on getting pics; should've already done that before I posted :)
