Help Needed, I think I messed up

I have a 2004 Silver Santa fe. I was trying to remove a scratch on my door using Mother's Scratch Remover. I think I may have applied too much pressure as now the spot where the scratch was has little white dot's in a 1 inch by 1 inch area and if you look at it from a distance it looks like a dark spot on the door. Does it sound like I went through the clear coat? I tried to take pictures but I can't get any good ones. Can anyone give me any suggestions to fix this or have I messed it up too bad?

Would something like Mother's Carnauba Cleaner wax be worth trying on the spot? Or will it just cause more damage? It just seems like looking at the spot I have scuffed the clear coat.

I am unable to get a good picture of it.

To update, I took it to a local detailer. I guess from the other door hitting mine and the little bit of scratch remover I used some of the clear coat is now gone. I was told the only way to fix it is to repaint the bottom half of the door. Although they said I should just leave it and live with it.

That is hard to do.

Does anyone have any tips that may help me hide this or is repainting really my only option?

I tried applying a little more scratch remover with no pressure to try and remove the spot. It didn't really seem to do much. When I look at the spot from certain angles the spot looks light silver or white. From other angles it looks like a dark spot on the silver paint.

When I rub my wet finger over it I can almost make the spot disappear.

Knowing this is there anything else I could try to remove or better hide the spot?

it sounds like you made the finish dull

so try working the pollish longer

or try a finner polish

or

you did remove the CC

and nothing short of a repaint will help

or best yet tell us where you live and maybe someone can help you with it or

at least take apicture for you

Thanks for the replies. I find it hard to believe I completely removed the clearcoat. I had applied pressure with the scratch remover but nothing excessive. When I look at the spot from below looking up it looks like like little dark spots on the clear coat almost like an orange peel look.

Can someone suggest a good wax to try?

You're gonna need a good polish before the wax. The simplest route is to go to the store and pick up some Meguiar's step #2 polish, then follow up with some of their #3 wax (from their 3 step system). I don't think you've done any serious damage, other than aesthetics at the moment.

yes you will need a good polish

but meg #2 is there "pure polish" so it is glaze

and not a abrasive polish and the results are only temperary

True. I just have no idea what polishes he has access to that will actually work for this as to truly polish it out.

The thing is that it's hard to find a true/good polish from a local store. You could try Mother's cleaner wax if you wanted, but that's about as abrasive as the Mother's stuff gets (aka, not very abrasive).

Even if you use a rubbing compound, you're gonna be left with scratching that you'll need to get out with a finer polish. I would just try a finer polish first as rubbing compound probably isn't necessary with this type of thing.

I was finally able to get a pic of the mark on my door. Again the only way I have been able to get rid of it at all is by using my wet finger to rub over it.
