So i ordered the wolfgang car care kit with a bunch of pads and it came with a backing plate as well..well yesterday i was running the PC at 6 and i noticed it started to rip apart?! :(

like when you pull a pad off the velcro it also rips the backing plate inbetween the velcro and the bolt witch attaches it to the actual PC. Anyone have any advice. do you think they will replace it??

alot of people on here use the pc at the 6 setting (i don't), but it's not recommended. i would stay around the 5 setting, and focus on pressure and technique....

get a quality backing plate....the meguiars PC backing plate sucks....I melted two within 10 details....I finally got their rotary plate with the rotary adaptor and I am past 10 with no signs of wear and tear....speed 6 is the only way I use my PC to remove defects/swirls...

I'd try returning the backing plate.

I've never used the Wolfgang backing plate, but the one I bought from Autopia has been holding up very well. I've done many details with it and I regularly run the PC at 6.

The backing plates by 3M and porter cable are of the best quaulity I have seen...I have used these for 3 years now and no problems..

Mine did the same thing when using PB SSR2.5/w/thing orange pad.

Seems too much heat causes them to unbond.

If it is an Lake Country piece, they will replace it, even if Wolfgang won't.

Good luck.

Call Customer Service or email them , tell them your story , they should replace it . You shoulda bought Edge 2000 pad system they don't use a backing plate. :buffing:

Man, here we go again. The thought of how one can "melt" a BP, to me is baffling. I just dont understand it. I REGULARLY use my PC with Orange, Green, White blue whatever color pad, on 6......CONSTANTLY. I have never ripped velcro from a pad, never worn the Velcro off a plate, and never/ever melted or disintegrated one. Even when the PC was too hot to continue using it. (Doug, ya hear me? 110 degs in Santa Clarita, July, white 94 Cobra?)

i think you guys are getting it wrong..its not the velcro thats ripping its the foam that connects the velcro to the bolt on top which connects to the PC which came apart

I need to find a 6" backing plate for my PC, since I've started using 6.5" Orange pads, the results from polishing are AMAZING! Yellow 6" LC pads are absolute JUNK compared to the Orange. Only problem is the 1" overlap from my 5" backing plate...

Anyone know of a good 6" backing plate that won't fall apart at speed 6?
