I have a little problem im hoping you all can help me with: I just got a 65 chrysler new yorker, and the interior is beautiful and original. the problem is that the radio doesnt work and i really want a cd player in the car... i need some way to install a cd player with out tearing up the dash, and affordable would be pretty awesome too--

Ouch, that's a tough one! On some of the older vehicles it was tough to get the radio out.......... on some it was easy. Look under the dash for a mounting bracket for the radio. Try and get the radio out of the bracket. Later, you can cut out the bracket if you find a CD player that will fit.

I know i could probably find a player that would fit in place of the radio but it would just ruin the whole look of the car's interior,,, and that would probably break my heart :sosad I was wonderin if maybe there was a way to mount the CD somewhere else, and as for the face of it and what not, i dunno where that would go....

I would agree! If you are trying to restore the vehicle, or at least keep in looking stock, mount the CD player in an inconspicous place. (Some people mount them in the trunk) You may want to get the radio fixed........... just for the "heck" of it.

I've mounted several in the glove compartment using MDF and no damage was done to any of the cars. It keeps the deck hidden, but accessible.
 
It's a Chrysler, so you might be able to get some resto-mod parts that have modern internals, but look completely orginal. Check out oldmoparts.com (this place has mostly orginal products, but you could try) and yearone.com .We're in the process of restoring 2 Mopars as well. A '59 Dodge and a '46 Plymouth.
 
idk how much room i have in my glove compartment, I think it would be too small....but if not that would solve the problem of changing songs and all that...how would you change tracks on a trunk mounted player ne way/?
 
the idea about getting the original looking parts would probably work out the best but idont think i have the funds im only 17 making about 60 bucks a week..... i have the feeling most of thats gonna go straight to the gas tank

They make CD changers with "wireless" remotes. I believe some come with a small "wired" control panel you can mount under the dash.



Do a google search on "Automotive CD Changers".
 
This won't help, but about 15 years ago, Pioneer made a tuner/changer controller with a display that looked like the CD changer displays of today, but the tuner box was a separate unit that was mounted somewhere else in the car (back in the dash, under a seat, etc.) The display was only 3/4" deep, 4" wide and 2" tall. That setup would be perfect in your case. I bought an FM mod'ed changer first, then bought the controller and tuner pack. Altogether it was about $500, but that was back in 1990. CD changers were still pretty expensive. The coolest thing about this setup was that there were only a few buttons on the display. I could turn the volume down with the remote and anyone else who got in my car could not turn it up.
