Help Me Justify this purchase

well after bidding for so many detailers and quoting me around the same price it would be to buy a PC and pads, I think im going to jump for it. For some reason I'm just having a hard time justifying the purchase. Let me know if this is a good deal:

PC

LC Blue

LC Orange

LC Yellow

Polishing bonnet

Backing plate

$149

I have products to be used with this to get my swirls out like SSR2.5, Z-PC, and others.

mshu7, my last car was a 4door Sp23. Now I have an RX-8. How is the paint on the mazda's? Should those pads be enough to get rid of some swirling?

It's funny you ask ndtechie05. There's a thread going on the Mazda3 board about some guy's '04 Mazda3 and the thousands of rock chips it has after 60K (http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=49746.0).

Mine on the other hand is doing fairly good. There are 3-4 rock chips, but as much as I've heard about how bad Mazda paint is, I'm pretty happy with it.

I purchased this PC kit from AG: http://autogeek.net/hk7424.html

When I got my PC in the spring, I used a while polishing pad (Lake County) with PB SSR1. I only had some minor swirls so this combo did the job. I think a polishing pad with SSR1 or SSR2.5 for some worse swirls will do just fine.

After that I used Klasse Sealant Glaze and have topped it on different occasions with PB Natty's Blue & most recently DP Max Wax. I have to tell ya, as good as Natty's is, DP Max Wax is so much better. I still like Natty's, but Max Wax is my new favorite by far. It goes on like butter and is the easiest wax I've ever removed.

How do you like the RX-8 compared to the Mazda3? How long have you had it?

Here's my old gallery on the forum http://www.mazda3forums.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=304

I LOVE the RX-8. Had to get rid of my automatic. The 3 was great, did great gas mileage got around 28mpg from here to Hartford where I go to school. But the 8 is so much nicer, it has more pep, the car just roars, the horn sound awesome (if you know where I'm coming from!) I've had the RX-8 since this April, I bought it over Spring Break. Fully loaded with Nav and the GT package. I couldn't be happier, unless I get these swirls out!

Looks like mine, except the 4 doors and automatic shifter :) .

My wife & I love our 3. At first I thought I wanted the 3 but my wife picked the number of doors and I picked the trans. I can now say I love the hatch. It's so convenient for big items and has tons of room. Makes it much easier on my wife when she gets groceries. Plus, we plan on having kids in a couple years so it'll be even more handy for those days. This is the first manual I've ever owned and I absolutely love it. It's a blast to drive. I've also never driven a Mazda till the 3. I am still blown away by the handling. It's surprising to find in a sub $20K car. I know a lot of 3 owners with automatics complain about gas mileage but it looks like yours performed pretty good. I've tracked every tank of gas and we're right at 30 MPG over the life of the car.

Now that I know what Mazda is about, I'd love to drive an RX-8. I'm sure it's a lot of fun. I really dig the looks of it inside and out. And yes, I imagine the horn is a delite after owning a 3 (LOL). Do you have any pics of it? If not, you should snap some after you detail it up with your future PC.

Check out my "garage" under my name on the left. This was after detailing it all dat Sat w/o a PC :( and the car show I was in Sunday. I think I'm going to buy a PC today. Not sure which package now. The one you got is 189 and you get more pads. The one I'm looking at is 149 and you get 3 pads and the backing

Cool, I'll check them out.

In the meantime, here are some other kits that AG has: http://autogeek.net/po.html

I would definitely get one that has a couple pads of each type. That way, if you are working on swirls and the product you're using doesn't cut it, you can use to something more agressive with the same time of pad (or vice versa). I just find it convenient to have a couple of each kind.

1. It is a good deal.

2. You need it.

3. You want it.

4. One or two light details will pay for it.

5. You want it.

6. You want it.

Convinced yet?

omg someone from south texas!

If no one else said this... I would have said LC Yellow, Orange, White, maybe Grey... not really blue. Blue will be fine for waxes I guess... but you may want a white pad.

well blue came with the package. do you recommend i use the white to applu Zaino polish?

Nope. I like Zaino by hand... IF you do it by machine though... grey or blue. Blue would be fine for that. Just seems like alot of people find uses for the white while polishing... more for final polishes before wax... surprising a kit wouldn't have a white one.
