Help cats gone wild!

Hi
Some 'homeless cats' used to get on my car's hood
and they leave scratchs.
How can I avoid them to get on my car?
Do I have to buy a shotgun?

Catch them and take them to a shelter. Thats what I do.

(cheaper) I know that cats dont like something that is sticky so if you put a mat of say fly paper once there paws touch it they wont even think about lying down and they will eventually forget about there fav. hang out. lol

My parents have used the SCAT MAT and it was very effective though a little pricey. I say used because Mom drove off with it on the car and now it's somewhere between Salem and Spanish Fork, Utah.
