Hello from UK!!

Hi Guys,



I have been told about this site from Detailing World in the UK. I am relatiely new to all this thorough detailing and have recently been working on getting my Escort looking the part.

But now I have a major project on my hands!



My girlfriend has an R reg red corsa which has not been looked after in the slightest! I think it gets washed about once every 3 months! subsequently, all the bodywork has oxidised to a pink colour!

She wants to sell it so I have got to sort it out so that she can get as much for it as possible!



I am planning to take the front seats out & spend a day steam cleaning the interior as it is quite stained. Then spend another day on the exterior. Planning to wash & then use Some AutoGlym Intensive Tar Remover then AutoGlym SRP & EGP and then finish it off with a layer of Collinite #915. Clean the engine bay with AutoGlym Engine & Machine Cleaner & restore the bumpers with AutoGlym Bumper Care.

Any advice would be welcome for my first correction detail.:waxing:

Welcome aboard friend. That paint is looking mighty flat and lifeless. What type of machine polisher (rotary or orbital) do you have access to.



Knowing the answer to that question may help with what products to recommend.



I've never used AutoGlym SRP or ERP so can't comment on either effectiveness in this situation.

I have access to a friends PC polisher, I dont fancy correcting this by hand!! :faint:



The car has also had some patches repaired on the side to cover over some scratches



There aslo has been some repairs made to the side of the car where there were some scrapes from a gatepost. As you can see, there has just been a square area sprayed on the door & the rear quarter panel. There is quite a contast between the fresh red colour & the oxidised pink!



Will this blend in when I polish it with SRP or will i need something more abrasive? Any suggestions??

Those lines look like masking lines from the tape and paper when the painter did his thing. If they are in fact those it's rather cheeky of them not to wetsand everything flush (which is what will need to be done).



As to the blending, there's not much you can do with polish for that. It's something that should've gotten taken car of when they painted it.



I only use a rotary so I'm not aware of any polishes that can work at the level you need to remove that oxidation. Others might though.



If you can get your hands on some 3Mâ„¢ Rubbing Compound, 39002 you can try a spot and see how well the paint responds. It's made to be used by hand or machine. One of the mildest compounds 3M makes that's capable of removing oxidation but not so harsh it introduces dulling of it's own.



Can usually be found at most auto parts stores.
