Hey everybody, newbie here. Looking to learn lots.

I got into "detailing" with my first car in 2001, a 1978 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Broughham in Cobalt Blue. I spent a lot of time taking care of it, and teaching myself regular maintenance (plugs, carb, all the basic stuff).

Fast forward to 2014, and there were quite a few cars in between - '93 Infiniti Q45, '95 Nissan Maxima, '94 Dodge Intrepid, and now a 2002 Infiniti Q45 in Obsidian Black for me, and a 2005 Infiniti QX56 in Emerald Green for the wife.

About three months ago I somehow happened on the DetailedImage.com site, and started reading through the car care guide. I'm very much a do it yourselfer, so the idea of getting a dramatic improvement in the condition of my paint was very appealing. I picked up the PC, Lake Country Orange, White, and Black pads, Meguiar's M105, M205, Menzerna SF4500, and Blackfire Wet Diamond. After about 18 hours, the Q45 looked like a different car.

Before\After with M105:

Can see I still haven't managed to defeat the overspray on the hood and front bumper. Purple Foamed Wool and M105 didn't get it, so I'm going to try the M105 and Meguiar's Xtra Cutting Discs this weekend.

Blackfire Wet Diamond topped with Menzerna Color Lock Caranuba Wax

The QX56. I started on the hood last weekend, and holy crap does this thing have hard paint. It took the LC Purple Foamed Wool pads, M105, and a ridiculous amount of pressure on speed 6. Ug.

The shelf of goodness.

I tend towards Meguiar's products, but am looking forward to trying more of Menzerna's stuff.

I'm an active duty Officer (Signal Corps) with the United States Army. I'm currently the Executive Officer with an Advanced Individual Training (AIT) Company, stationed at Fort Gordon, GA (Augusta). It's the follow-on to Basic Combat Training (BCT) where Soldiers learn their specific job - computers and networking specifically, for my Soldiers.

I've been considering getting into detailing on the side, but I'm limited to Friday evening through Sunday for when I could work on cars. Not sure how that would play out.

Look forward to learning from you all.

Very nice man, the black paint came out awesome! All you got left are those headlights, there's a post with some new stuff for hazed headlight, I'd definitely check it out. You definitely have all the right tools.

Thanks! Unfortunately the haze is on the interior of them, and since the dang things are $500 each (used), I'm very hesitant to take them apart. I would cry for days if I couldn't get them sealed up properly and they got water in them...

Welcome to Autopia! I see you've had the pleasure of owning a 4th gen Nissan Maxima, I too (like Morgan Freeman) own a 4th gen Nissan Maxima.

There's plenty of time there for you to make extra money. I usually only have Saturday and Sunday off and I try and squeeze 1 detail on Saturday morning. Any extra $ helps.

Contact JB, he owns black flame customs. I had an issue where my lights were leaking. He pulled mine apart an resealed them for a ton less.

Black Flame Customs - Projector Headlights, HID Retrofit Conversions, Projector Retrofit Upgrades & Custom Lighting

Thanks, will look into that.

I've been pretty loyal to the Nissan\Infiniti world. I flip flop daily on if the Q gets replaced with a CTS-V, M56, or if I go to the dark side (Acura) and get a first-gen NSX...

Dear PapaChop

Welcome!

My uncle used to be a firefighter at Fort Gordon. When he met my aunt, he transferred to Dobbins in Marietta and later retired from there with thirty-five years of service.

Some new toys came today - going to see how well the Xtra Cutting Discs work out on the hood of the wife's QX.

We were here in 2012, and are back again for another two years or so. We like Augusta.
