Heavy film on glass - solution

Being the owner of a new car since the Screaming Banana met its end, I was 'fortunate'? enough to pick one that has been sitting on the dealer's lot for quite a while...seems no one wanted the car..."Oh my God! You mean I have to shift gears myself!!" The spider cocoons in the door jambs were kind of an indicator too.

Anywho...the car had a serious case of the window film blues which no cleaner would fully remove. The accident I was in must have knocked the tinfoil hat off my head, and a thought entered the void" "I wonder if Rain-X would remove the film."

I started thinking (which is normally a dangerous thing) that Rain-X has a high alcohol content and many home made glass cleaners are also high in alcohol. I know I've used Rain-X before on the interior glass to help keep them clean and make routine cleanings easier, so I gave it a try. What can I say, the Rain-X ate the film right off the windows. I could see where I missed a few spots but instead of going through the whole Rain-X process again, I used some Castrol Clear-Vue (their version of Rain-X). Success! The glass was now crystal clear and the wife was irritated that the windows in HER car weren't as clean...a sure sign of a job well done.

Just thought I'd share.

I did the same on a car of mine and it worked well as you said...it dose say not to use on the inside windows...I just left the doors open while doing it and for a while after to let dry real well before finishing up...it can be toxic smelling.

I've also used it on our sliding glass doors on the back of the house that get allot of rain and it helps greatly to reduce the spots and keeps the glass cleaner looking longer..IMO

Huh... I never would have thought of using Rain-X to remove window film. Learn something new every day! Thanks

I'm confused now. Do you mean film on the window as in grungy, or window film as in tint?...........Tom

Grungy...almost like the baked-on film you get on the window of an oven or grill, but clearer.
