HD Speed 2 Month Review

David Fermani

Forza Auto Salon
Here are 2 videos of recent details where I used the new HD Speed. The vehicles were completely detailed with HD Speed and were not topped with any other protective product. I used the new HD Green Polishing foam pad via DA and was able to correct minor defects such as factory induced buffer swirls and isolated minor marring. I will also be doing a full write up on each vehicle as soon as possible to show the condition they were in prior to this treatment. Approximately 2 months have gone by since applying HD Speed and the owner has washed each vehicle approximately 2 to 3 times. They are both garaged kept, but not driven very much. As you can see from the video, the Bentley Mulsanne was in desperate need of a good cleaning and has been driven in rain. The Ferrari California wasn’t that dirty and only needed a light cleaning. All in all, I am very pleased with both the corrective ability of HD Speed as well as the durability & ease of use. Especially in the extremes of the S. Florida environment. Pretty much anyone with limited ability of detailing can get great results with HD Speed and is an excellent option for someone looking for a quick and easy way to improve shine all while adding a fair amount of protection to their vehicle.

Enjoy:

Great Review!

Looks like I need some Speed from that batch!

Thanks Luke - If I didn't have such a little amount left I would give you the rest of my bottle. :)

Great review and videos David! What camera did you use? Seems to focus superbly. And was it you holding the camera?

Thanks Thomas! I used my Samsung EPIC camera phone and when uploading to You-Tube I selected the option to stabilize the video. I shot the video myself.

That looks really good David! What are you doing differently than the rest of us to get two months out of Speed???

Parked indoors and not driven is the key factor. I'd had Optiseal on my dad's Passat for over a year, still beading strong. Its' parked indoors and driven about 3k miles a year.

Yeah, I missed that part about being in the garage the majority of the time and not driven. That makes more sense now. Still a lot longer than the garage queens I've applied Speed on.

Great post David. I think people here are not seing the whole picture of HD Speed. Its not a product that was developed for longevity. I was excited to see this post for the fact that you were able to get 2 months of protection out of it! Although the vehicles are garage kept. Im sure they were driven and driven in Floridas hot sun. That in itself should melt away any LSP. Let alone an AIO. I remember last year at Sema when Tunch introduced this product. His main goal with it was for detailers who do monthly maintence packages. It was designed for these guys. The guys who once a month went out and gave the car a quick once over. This product is perfect for that. It gives just enough correction and just enough protection till next time. I personally find it incredible on some of our auction vehicles. We use it on every car that goes out the door in the volume side of my shop. When time is money! I need something fast. Hence why we always use Speed!

I guess the confusion comes from the product's description.

"HD® Speedâ„¢ polishes and protects the painted surface in one easy and simple step. Removes light to moderate surface scratches and swirl marks. This remarkable product restores color, depth, and gloss while adding a long lasting wax to the surface.

Great for those who want quick paint correction with amazing paint protection."

To me, saying something is a long lasting wax that provides amazing paint protection implies something entirely different than your statement that "the product was not designed for longevity."

Oddly enough it looks like the bently still has some minor beading as opposed to the ferrari!

Hmmm, I'd say that both cars are beading great. Just differently. Keep in mind that the Bentley has a thick film of oily dirt residue on it too! the beading differences may be because of the body lines and the way the water bounced off of it? What I thought was interesting was the way the water was sheeting off the Ferrari!

Like Dan said, being garaged (in an air conditioned garage btw) probably has alot to do with it. I used a HD green pad and applied 4-6 drops on each section, worked it in pretty long (I was doing light correction) and removed the excess. I followed up with HD Touch for my final wipe down.

Thanks Barry and you are totally correct. Many might think that this product is designed to take the place of a dedicated sealant. It's not. It has a time and place like all other AIOs. I also think this product would excel in the high volume/maintenance market. Bottom line, it saves time, produces a great slick finish and is super easy to use.

Amazing and long lasting is in the eyes of the beholder(end user) and I think this product has the ability to perform to those expecations in the proper context. It does everything as advertised and has obviously lasted 2 months on these 2 vehicles. If out of all the advertised characteristics someone is requiring additional protection, they can/should follow up with HD Poxy or Nitro Seal to avoid "confusion". :)

David, I have the utmost respect for you and your opinions, but I think that anyones definition of "long lasting" would exceed two months on a garage queen. To label a product as long lasting would imply that a product could last at minimum 3-4 months on a daily driver. Any less than that is just plain false advertising. I will get some in for testing and look forward to others testing as well.

Gotcha and thank you, but please consider where/who this product is being marketed towards (mainly).....express detailers and volume based shops. And in that setting, I think you could advertise it as "long lasting". Is that "amazing" to us....maybe not. But show me a company that doesn't indulge in the advertising of their products characteristic/description? Especially with interior trim and paint protectants! But, besides the durability concern, the product works very well and creates an incredible amount of gloss for what that is worth.

i used speed for the first time last week on an IP G35 that was very lightly swirled. she was for sale & just needed to look a little more fresh than when i got her. the hood & trunk needed some extra love but the sides, skirts & bumpers were done with speed + a blue pad with the makita.

for the hood i went with different products.

i think speed is great for a lightly swirled car.

i topped the G35 with CG 3X HC Paste Wax & she looked sexy!

Well, I'm not holding my breath waiting for some company to advertise their product as being "moderately durable on garage-queens" or offering "modest protection", even though that's how I would describe 99.9% of the AIOs/LSPs out there.

Hey, compare how Speed is in those regards to, say...KAIO, and then read the ad-copy for *that* product!

Original or the voc KAIO? I have the original (somehow I didn't throw it away years ago (:D:D:D)

I remember when Kaio was reformulated years ago, everyone said the new version sucked. I'll be happy to compare SPEED against what I have.

Mine is probably the original as I got it *way* before the big VOC-regs thing, like maybe around 2001. But it barely lasts weeks for me anyhow.

I was just being rhetorical with that "compare with KAIO" thing...people were acting like Speed is some unique example of ad-copy hyperbole just because it's described the same way that every such product is. Hey, Sӧuveran is described as being durable

Thank you Accumulator for your post. I know some members are out to "get" HD. I wonder why.
