Haze with products like Platinum UPP, FMJ, etc..

I've noticed that I get an odd hazing with polymer/oil products like Platinum UPP and Menzerna FMJ. At first I thought it was just the former, but was disappointed to note that on two test panels, both products did the same to varying degrees. Once in a while, I get this problem with Klasse AIO too.

The problem is best described as a staining/haze on the paint that takes on the form of the strokes I used to apply the product. The car is a black Merc. Under my 1000w halogens, there is no residue on the paint and I looked at the surface from a few angles with no success of finding anything wrong. However under the sun, you can definitely see the pattern. Maybe the paint was too hot because of the bright lights so close? Did I not let it dry long enough?

On my Japanese paint, this exists to some extent, but some QD usually cleans it up. I don't feel like rubbing the paint on the Merc more than necessary, so I wonder what is causing it...

Will try a brand new MF applicator and brand new MF towel to see if it helps. Someone has suggested humidity could be a problem.

I can't speak for UPP, but hot paint or heat/humidity in my experience is definitly not a friend of FMJ.

a couple of recommendations, if you haven't tried already

- use it out of the sunlight, on cooler surface (i have noticed some streaking when trying to remove FMJ when hot and in direct sun). Usually i'll wait until the evening when the sun goes down to apply.

- use a dry, clean applicator for FMJ

- the longer you let it sit the easier it is to remove, i usually try to wait at least 45min.

- CMA suggest polishing before first use

- i usually do small circles by hand when applying.

- use a dry MF to remove it (i use the magic towel)

Hope this helps!

I'm starting to think that it was the proximity of the 1000w lamps to the paint. I was trying to sniff out every last scratch on that trunk lid. Even the AIO was giving me problems.

Used a clean foam applicator, and removed with the CMA dragon buffing MF. However, it might have benefitted from drying a bit longer. Will try it again, thanks.
