Has anyone here detailed a MK7 Golf or GTI? Corner window question...

I just got a new GTI and noticed it has these annoying and difficult to reach corner windows:

Not my picture, but you get the point. Has anyone come up with a trick or found a tool to clean these properly, or am I stuck trying to stuff a microfiber in there and moving it around with a stick of some sort?

I have had my mk7 for 2 years now. I cleaned those small windows once when I first got it with a MF towel. Since they I have had no issues or any need to do it again. I just applied a small amount of glass cleaner to a towel and stuck it in the corner and cleaned the glass.

Hah, those infamous corner windows, I honestly have never cleaned mine. When I got mine tinted the guy couldn`t tint them and used gloss black vinyl on the outside instead. So I guess I have no need to clean them now. :P

Huh, surprised that people don`t have to do `em. (I`d crumple up a GG Polypropylene Window Wipe and use that.) Seems like every square centimeter of our autoglass needs cleaned, even on the garage-queens.

Nizmo- Didn`t the vinyl limit your visibility a bit?

Nizmo- Ah, OK.

And yeah, the tint that my Crown Vic has from its in-service life *looks* really cool..but on a dark night, in an unfamiliar area, with my eyesight...well, if I ever get cited for it I won`t begrudge having to replace it with something lighter.

What a strange design element. I have a MK6 and that small window doesn`t exist. I had to look up some additional images of the MK7 to figure out what was going on. For the MK6 the side mirrors are mounted higher on the car and there is no place for a small opening.

I can`t imagine how hard it is to properly clean the window. Getting the middle of the area should be easy, but actually cleaning the edges would take some real flexibility.

There are long handled thin applicators that are foam on the end somewhere...
They were sold to clean all the opening in front grills, remember ??
Perhaps search front grill cleaning tools, etc???

My brain just kicked in and I believe the products for grills were, or are still sold by - yeah - Griot`s.. :)

Isn`t it strange that they would do that? It`s going to drive me nuts if I can`t clean these properly. Maybe I should hire somebody with tiny hands?

I`ll look for them, thank you!

Never cleaned mine. My window tint guy was able to tint them, so I don’t notice much if there is some minor dust on the inside.

Jwyfl !!!

Found them !! https://www.griotsgarage.com/produc...socks+set+of+4.do?sortby=ourPicks&from=Search

And this -- https://www.griotsgarage.com/product/detailing+stick+system.do?sortby=ourPicks With this set up, you can put a microfiber towel over some of these things and it should fit into those tight spaces around that tiny window really well too..

I bet these will work..

I might have cleaned them once, sprayed some glass cleaner and shove a microfiber cloth in there. Really awkward to clean, but they don`t seem to get all that dirty or at least it`s not noticeable.
I wonder it VW made a special tool for them

I would try to go over the inside perimeter of that tiny window a few times first, then go for the rest. Try Griot`s Lint Free wipes, as Accumulator mentions, maybe cut and wrapped around a foam swab, or the Lake Country foam sticks. The photo looks like the perimeter has that black stippling, which always seems drag a haze over the rest of the glass. Not sure what that material is, actually.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Griot`s Detailing Stick System... never did order that one, but always wanted to try it.
Might have to look into it...

I don`t mind spending a little more to get stuff from Griot`s, but if the price on the Detailing Sticks is excessive they`re available elsewhere, or at least they were at one time. I bought the Griot`s ones as the other vendor was calling them a Product Name that rubbed me the wrong way.

Dunno if I`d use them for this, but hey they`re good to have anyhow.

Good find, thank you! They`re a bit pricey for me, but if that`s the only choice, I may have to do it.

You have me curious what the offensive name could have been! Unless something says white power and has Swastikas on it, I`ll buy it if it`s a good value.

Well, not all that different morally speaking IMO...

The name referred to somebody who profits from the sex-for-sale activities of others and even featured a cutesy spelling of the word "Sticks" using multiple "x"es. Guess the guys (bet they aren`t women) naming their product after that item have never been beaten with one.

It bugs me that [individuals] in that profession aren`t called out as the exploitative soul-crushers that 99.99999% of them are. Naming a Detailing Product after those [individuals] panders to those who exploit the weak or esteem those who do, if only by reinforcing the idea that it`s "cool". [Screw] that.

Yeah, I do take this life-and-death seriously.

I really need to spend more time on the Griots home page. Every time I take a look I stumble across something else interesting. Just to think, I`ve been using either my finger or a foam paint brush from a craft store when working on a honey comb grill all this time while when Griots had an entire tool kit to solve the problem!

Can you use a microfiber glove to reach that window? I spray a little cleaner on a microfiber glove to clean the corners of my rear glass.

Not that I`ve ever even sat in a MKVII, but FWIW my MF gloves lint too badly to be used on such stuff. I gather yours DON`T lint though...
