I have a black 2006 F-150 that has bad water spots, I have used a polishing compound but it did not work, someone suggested a acid wash, anyone ever any acids or know of what to use

Welcome to AutopiaForums!!

AG has CG Waterspot Remover (uh, Todd, maybe you should fix that) that MAY work if you are dealing with mineral build-up. Vinegar might also work.

If you are dealing with etching, compounding/polishing is really the only chance and, if it is deep, even that may only be partially successful.

I have alot of luck with red softbuff 2.0 pads and Megs 205 on nasty water spots with a rotary. I'd try the chemical remover first because your truck is black so be prepared to spend some time getting the buffer trash off it. Also probably wanna be really careful the red 2.0 pad is super unforgiving in my experience but it cuts like a champ, water spot echings is the only thing I ever use it for.

It usually takes a machine to remove these water spots. I finally used some Mothers Water Spot Remover (working on a review) and I got them off using a DA with a LC yellow and a LC Cyan pads (either worked). No luck by hand but these spots have been there for years.

First post...this is an awesome forum. I have an '88 Guards Red Carrera with what I "think" are water spots on the upper fender on the left rear wheel well. I've tried a number of things over the years and I can make them sort of disappear with waxing but they quickly come back. I have not tried the vinegar trick so will do that next, but can someone tell me what causes the water spots? Is it something that was in the rain/water that gets into the paint or is it just some sort of damage TO the paint?
I don't have any sort of electric buffers...yet. I'd like to find something that works on these spots first.

Its impossible to know exactly where these spots came from. One of the most likely causes were if you parked close to a lawn irrigation system. Its strange that they reappear too. Usually when you remove waterspots they don't reappear unless you park next to a sprinkler again :crazy2:
