As everyone knows (or maybe doesn't know), Thanksgiving is a celebration of a bountiful harvest and dates back to the Pilgrims early arrival in America (befor there were actual countries here). Since Canada's climate is more severe than that of our US cousins, the crops are harvested earlier in the season - hence the celebration in October, rather than November.
Today is Canada's annual celebration of the harvest and a statutory holiday across the country, which is generally of more interest to everyone than the state of the annual crops.
