Happy Birthday yalerd

Sorry for the newbieish question... but this is my 2nd big step in doing the detail thing (first was finding this board). I'm about to place a large order (up to about $500) which is a lot for me. It's for my car and to give me a basis to start building a small client base of cars i can detail for a little bit of spending money (nothing huge.. maybe 3-4 cars a month). I know i have some duplicates... like blackfire and klasse...but i have a feeling different people will want different results. I"m most unsure of the intererior and tire products. Klasse and BF get tons of press here... the other stuff is only found here and there.. ok here's the list. (all the kits and things are CMAs stuff)

Forever Black tire gel kit

P21S wheel cleaner

Eimann fabrik black opal dressing

Blitz wax

3M perfect it for dark cars

3M FI-II

Blackfire complete kit (comes with pinacle clay kit)

pinacle sizzling shine Souveran kit

inacle concours interior kit

303 Aerospace Protectant spray

Porter cable acessory kit (already have the 7336)

Klasse kit

Glass cleaning kit (viper MF and Eiman glass stuff)

i have the MFs already (thanks yosteve!) and a carrieng case and all that. I know that the BF and Pinacle kits come with their own shampoos which should be fine (haven't heard many reviews though) I have some dawn... i think that's all my basis to do a full job. glass, leather, vynl, tires... i feel like i'm forgetting something though. Thanks

You may want a clay.

You can never have enough car wash and tire cleaner. Maybe you should check out the EF HI stuff.

I assume you have applicators, wash brushes, dusting brushes vacuum, etc.

I think if you're buying all this stuff to try out and play with, then the list is fine. I do think that there is a bit of overkill with all the carnauba and polymer sealants, but again, if it's just for play then order whatever you feel like.

Also if you are going to use all this stuff on other cars to improve your detailing skills, sorta like OJT, then these products are fine. But if you want to get into detailing seriously, instead of a little hobby where you can make a couple bucks, then this product list needs a major overhaul. I'm just not clear what you intend (you may not be clear either and that's OK; it's a learning process, isn't it?) As long as you are not going full bore (or even 1/2 bore) into pro detailing, you'll be fine.

It's fun experimenting with different products. It's also fun learning new techniques to solve problems. But if you mix the two you'll find the going quite rough. What's best is to start with a foundation of solid, time-tested products and build your detailing skills with them. The fact is that unless you have the skills to do a specific job, all the fancy products in the world aren't going to help and will probably hurt you. It's just too much to consider for the novice.

My advice is to keep this simple if you're planning to go into business. If you're just gonna do this as a hobby, then don't worry.

Just a few things to consider.........................
