Hand Vacuums

Here is my situation, I like to keep the inside of my car clean, I also like to go climbing. The latter usually dictates the condition of the former. I also *hate* digging out the shop vac to do small clean ups, which usually leaves me with a (lightly) dirty interior for the better part of the week. It is not terribly bad, just some light dusty shoeprints, leaves, that kind of stuff. I have started looking at small hand vacuums in the $20-$50 range so I can give the inside a quick once over. I don't care if they are cordless, 12V, or 110V, I just want something small and easy.

Something this style/size would be great (It's a Black and Decker Dustbuster), but I don't want to end up with something completely worthless. If I'm going to spend the money, I figured I'd ask the experts to see if there was something out that that actually worked well in the size that I'm looking for. Anyone have any experience with small vacuums like this?

While I haven't tried all of them, I find problems with the cordless rechargeble types. None seem to last long enough to do any good. The charge runs out too quickly.



I have two that plug in to the car lighter that work great for me. The first and the best is the Oreck Car Vac. $39.95 direct from Oreck or at an Oreck store near you. Works terrific and is likely just what you need. It's got a light in the front and it also doubles as a flashlight.

Comes with all the attachments.

The second one, I got at Wal-Mart for under $10 and it works almost as well as the Oreck!

Less power than the Oreck but still enough for light dirt,dust and lint.

I can't remember the brand name but it too comes with all the attachments. Definitely worth more than the asking price.

I trust none other than my specialised 2000 Watt Bosch wet & dry vac which I bought especially for my detailling jobs.



Even wife knows she is not supposed to touch it... It works like a dream and the "cyclone" attachment which is attached to the hose lets you ses what you are extracting at any given moment...



It is so powerful that we joke with wife that it is to even wipe out the patterns on the seat fabric...

I use one of the Shark rechargeable hand vacs for car shows. Its perfect. The suction power is pretty impressive for a rechargeable. It even comes with several attachments.
