Hand Polish. P21s?

I have never polished before and was doing some research. I came across P21s polish to cheap and decent reviews. Before I go buy it, I just want to know what people think and how it compares to more expensive wolfgang/pinnacle. I have a new car that is 1 month old.

PS I wont be using a PC. It will all be by hand.

Nope you won't do much damage by hand, but neither will you get all that much results. If you're going on the inexpensive route, may I suggest a cheap 6" random orbit. It'll save a lot of time and effort and doesn't cost much more than a bottle of polish. Just go slowly and use a wool bonnet for all your polishing needs.

I've used the same $20 coleman for more than 10 years and if it craps out on me I know I've gotten my money's worth out of it since I've used it to literally rake in thousands in mobile detailing a while ago. Maybe if it does break on me I'll get this, it looks nice.

If your car is new and you have taken care of it, you may not need a dedicated product. Just wash, clay and then add an AIO (All in One) product. There are many good ones-- Megs ColorX, Optimum PoliSeal, Zaino All in One, Duragloss 105 to name just a few. These products include a cleaner, light polish and some protection. You can then add another coat of pure Sealant protection afterwards if you want.

I was looking into hand polishing only as I dont have access to a long power cable for PCing. What hand polish do you guys recommend?

Instead of getting the P21S, buy the S100. Made by the same company. It’s half the price, and it’s pretty much the same wax. From reading all the right ups about the two, the only difference people can see is in the color of the wax. You can buy it on line at the Harley Davidson site, or just go there if you have on in your area. You can also do a search on S100® Carnauba Wax.

ok maybe its more fair to say, I don't want to use a PC or anything of that sort. I understand that doing by hand will not be as good as using a PC. I was just wondering, if you guys only had the option of polishing by hand, what product might you go with? Thanks guys.

Polishing by hand can work (gotta do it that way in areas where my polishers won't fit), just takes a lot of time and effort. If I can remove fingernail scratches from behind the doorhandles of Audis by hand, well, then you can do most anything that way ;)

IMO the only game in town for by-hand, full-vehicle polishing is the 1Z brand. Sources: Home or Aloha & Welcome to Our Oasis for All Your Auto Detailing, Auto Detailing Supplies, Auto Detailing Equipment, Auto Detailing Products, & Auto Detailing Accessories for all your Automobile Detailing

hmm, that 1Z polish looks interesting. And they do state polishing by hand is an ok option. The ColorX seems like a good choice too since my car is relatively new. I was wondering if I can get my grey car a little more deeper darker color and polishing seems to be what I need. Any other recommendations on "hand" polishes?

Between the Color-X and one of the 1Z polishes, well, not even a choice IMO ;) Dunno if they'll make it look darker though

If you want something mild (as per the Color-X), try the 1Z Metallic Polish with Wax. It's usually too mild to correct any marring though. But it *is* probably the most user-friendly polish ever made.

Sorry for the hard sell :o It's just that this one is a single-correct-answer type of situation IMO.

If you top the 1Z with some Collinite past wax it might give your gray paint a good look. I've used that combo on similar colors with results I really liked. And with the Collinite you won't have to do anything but wash it for a long, long time- that stuff wears like iron and is my #1 choice for our more extreme-use drivers.

P21S is a wax, not a polish. A machine like a PC 7424 is essential if you are polishing but you do not need a machine if you are just applying a wax; you can do a fine job by hand. P21S is a great wax but like all 100% carnauba waxes it not very durable. Don't expect it to last more than a month or so. If the finish on your car is in like-new condition then P21S is a good choice. If your finish is less than perfect I recommend Klasse All-In-One. That can be applied by hand but is much better with a machine.

Cool. A polish/wax in one. maybe that would be best for my new car.

Note that the wax in the Metallic Polish with Wax is pretty short-lived. It looks very nice but doesn't last more than a few weeks. IMO the best thing about it is that it'll provide enough protection to get you to the next wash, so you can wait and apply the "real" wax at that time if you're tuckered out from the wash-and-polish job (you can just apply the wax right after the Metallic Polish if you're *not* too tired, it's a nice, flexible approach).

I've *never* received any negative feedback that I can recall on the 1Z MPwW, and that's kinda impressive to me as I recommend it so often. The only thing that ever comes up is that it's *very* gentle, so if you have any real scratches you'll need something more aggressive like their 1Z Paint Polish.

Sweet, applying wax right after would be nice. Does the 1Z MPwW need to cure or I can wax right away. Some people are recommending Klasse AIO. That stuff seems to be really easy on and off. 1Z MPwW seems very cool too.

No need to wait after the 1Z MPwW. Its waxes/whatever don't get messed up if you apply something else right away.

KAIO is a good product, and worth having on hand. It cleans better than 1Z MPwW but doesn't leave quite the same highly polished finish IMO. The KAIO is functionally nonabrasive on most paints, the 1Z MPwW isn't *quite* that close to nonabrasive (but it's still mild enough that you could use it every week forever).

Ease of use is close to a toss-up, but *IMO* the 1Z is easier.

I really only use KAIO as a preparatory product before using Klasse Sealant Glaze, but that's just me. For me, KAIO is basically a paint cleaner and I only use it *after* I polish with abrasives. I can't recall ever seeing a vehicle that didn't need *some* degree of polishing before I'd consider it ready for KAIO.

With both on the shelf, if your vehicle were here I'd use the 1Z. Somebody else might choose the KAIO instead :nixweiss
