Guru Reports...&radar Detectors....

I finally got me a copy of Guru Reports Wax Test :D. I believe it is kinda old, anyone know when they're going to make an up-to-date one?

The tests were done in the spring of 2002, report was released in early summer of 2002.

We just released a Glass Cleaner test (25 products tested) and are hard at work on a Wheel & Tire Care test (100+ products tested).

We won't be repeating the Wax Test for probably another year or so - there's no real reason to, other than to include a few "new" products that have come out...We have to finish other tests that are already in the planning and development stages.

Ah ok. BTW if someone lives really close to Vienna VA can they drive to your address and get the magazine there instead of through the mail?

September 2003 with any luck. We originally tested 30-some products, but bumped it up to over 100 a few weeks ago. Pre-order = discount.

Once it's published and released, the price will go up, as it's going to be close to 100 pages...

Ok I'll look for it then. It's great you guys are doing these tests, takes the guess work out of some choices. I can't wait for your radar test since I need a new one. I bet that'll be a fun test for you guys hehe. Lol hey there's you on page 2!

As far as radar detectors go, I got two words: Valentine One. It always wins everyone's test hands down. Every car magazine has tested it, it's number 1.

:( I was hoping that one wasn't #1. I didn't want to spend 400 for it, but I like to have the best so I'll prob end up getting it. I ABSOLUTELY freakin' hate my Whistler radar detector from Wal-Mart. The only thing it "detects" is other people's detectors and automatic doors.

I know, it is friggin expensive, thats why I borrow my Dad's :D!!

You're right. Every car magazine hes tested it, but not all of them rated it number one.

ahunt01, do some searching. The truth is out there.

Geeky, Are these 100+ wheel and tire products consumer, professional, or both because i dont think i have ever seen that many different wheel and tire care products? May i ask what the grading criteria will be?

stanger99,

I just read up on www.radartest.com and it looks like they liked the top modeled Escort and BEL just as much as Valentine 1. So I guess it doesn't have that much on the competition. But it did have the highest rear radar detection sensitivity.

Mostly consumer and boutique. We only have a handful of "pro" products that we're testing. The problem is that there are so many similar products from the same manufacturers...we wanted to do a complete test, and it's just sort of grown and grown.

Criteria will be different for each product. There's Wheel Cleaners, Tire Cleaners, Tire Dressings and "All-In-One" products. We're actually testing products right now, I'm on wireless out in the 95F temps, entering grades into the computer as we test products - I can't really list every test criteria right now.

We'll be doing initial test results and then following up on durability of dressings and wheel protectant products.

Great reports!

I have them ALL and will continue to get them..., By far the BEST info out there, HONEST, UNBIASED results..., no matter what label is on the product..., No advertising or lining of pockets by big manufacturers.

THANKS STEVE and Guru's:)

From what I understand, radartest.com has a few impartiality issues re Valentine. I bought the BEL based on their report, and after having used the unit for a year or so, I would have rather spent more money for the Valentine.

My 2 cents, I had a Valentine One, don't have it any longer. Its an excellent radar detectors no argument. However, it doesn't have some features that other detectors, that are just as good do. Automute, dark mode (w/o a $40 accessory). The arrows are great and I do miss them, but... you can't turn them off, they're huge and at night they are like becons! I had an escort 8500, also very good and now have an escort solo s2, which is their equal.

Let's not start a religous war, these are just my opinions. You are entitled to yours.

:D

Yeah I don't like the idea of those huge arrows in my windshield for cops to see. It's bound to cause harrasment by cops, even if you aren't speeding. And I'm too cheap to buy the $40 hiding kit on top of a $400 detector.
