Guess I will be crossing off a construction company I will do overspray removal for

I am not a Dr, but that person sounds like a Sociopath. A true Anti Social. Go after him with a vengeance. DO NOT let him get away with it. Involve who ever you have to.

While they never learn, teach him a lesson about who you are. Get your money and never ever do business with him. Ever.

If the company is not paying Scotwax the company is probably not paying other bills as well. The tell-tale sign of many failing businesses is the nickel and diming as Scottwax has explained.

Hope you get the chance to put some buffer trails on the company president's car! Of course I know you'd never do that, but the idea seems funny. :)

How about getting them to do some home repairs/upgrades. Then give them the same run around about payment!

Scott, I would let your referral customer know what's going on but I would be visiting the job site or sites and let there current and future customers who you are dealing with! I had this happen once before and I spent a day following around a company sales man to job sites and as soon as he finished his sales speech I told the customer don't expect much out these guys. After 3 stops and allot of threats to me I got a payment in cash plus 10% more! This salesman phoned his boss I assume who told him to pay me and get me away for him! I was pissed that I had to waste a day following this guy( who had really nothing to do with my situation other than he worked for the company I had a beef with) it was fun! I wish you luck Scott, it sucks that there people out in the world like this!!

Latest story is that for some reason, the check was never picked up by the mailman on Saturday and it went out yesterday according to the person I talked to in their office.

I did post this on craigslist: Fellow detailers beware

Hopefully at the very least they won't be able to get anyone to clean up their overspray messes anymore.

The management of the apartment where this happened is aware of the situation and has already called the company on my behalf.

Just got this e-mail, guess his company didn't think his comment to me was appropriate either so he has sort of apologized...

I just talked to my office personnel and they told me what you said. I need you to understand that my email wasn't meant to be taken literally. The preempted "Lol" was meant to suggest I was being humorous. Your email to me suggested that we WERE not being truthful when actually it was just a series of spectacularly unfortunate events. I mean really! First, the misunderstanding that you would be paid upon completion. Then, the one day delay getting the check from Houston. Next, your address not being on your invoice. (it was in your email). Then, I missed an email from you saying that you would pick it up so it sat here. And to top it all off, instead of dropping the mail off in the mailbox, the mailman was bringing the mail in to the office. Not realizing that we had an outgoing piece of mail to be picked up. I can understand you not believing we are on the up and up. Every day I got an email from you I found it hard to believe you had not got your check yet. And every day I pressed the people in my office about it. I've gotten calls from the office manager at the apartment complex and the owner of the car?!!???!!??! And just when I was getting furious, I started laughing hysterically when I remembered the amount of money we are talking about. I asked myself out loud "WHY CAN'T I GET $$$$ TO THIS GUY?!?!?" I sign off on checks all day long for much, much greater amounts and they have no problem getting paid. I can't understand it.

I hope you can understand now why that comment I made was meant to be taken with a dose of humor. Aside from you not getting your money after doing such a great job, the situation is unbelievably hysterical. I do hope you get your $$$$ soon so we can put this behind us. And know that none of us were intentionally screwing you around. It only seemed that way.

Forever yours, truthfully, honestly, and sincerely,

If he really feels bad about it he should hand deliver the payment in cash + 50% for the inconvenience since it is such a "small amount."

Scott,

In as pleasant voice as you can muster I would inform them you will be contacting the BBB, Angies List, and the board of Realtors in the area and ask them to flag this construction or paint company as #1 not protecting residents vehicles properly and #2 not paying on time. Give them a deadline, and dont let up...of course after you get the money I would still notify all those agencies anyway. You can bet they arent waiting for the check to pay for their crew, materials, etc for doing the job they are doing.

i'm surprised they didn't offer to pay with a CC. OR you could have billed the vette guy and made it his battle with the construction company. I'm with you though, the job should have been paid upon completion.

Yeah, check showed up two days after I contacted the owner of the Corvette, who then called the management of the complex where the overspray got on the car. I guess since the company was still on the property painting, that gave some leverage since the apartment manager told me she wasn't happy about the overspray in the first place and now not happy that if the company won't pay up, anyone else that gets overspray on their car won't be able to get it taken care of.

The check was dated November 3rd. Just stuns me it took 2 1/2 weeks from that point to get it to me.

I just don't understand WHY though. If the cheque was cut, then what's the big deal ? It's not like they're hanging onto the money for self-financing purposes, once the cheque is cut it's out of their books. Just doesn't make sense to hang onto the cheque. Sounds more like a disorganized office that doesn't prioritize properly than anything else.

That's my guess too, they are completely unorganized and apparently have no clue how to take care of those who get them off the hook for the damage they caused.
