Griot's Undercarraige Spray

I recently detailed a Sequoia and no matter how much I scrubbed or what I sprayed on the whell wells they wouldn't look as "finished" as they normally would. I tried AA, DG's TMD and Megs HD. I was thumbing through Griot's catalog and saw thier stuff. Anyone ever tried it? If not...does anyone have any suggestions?

mose- I've used it, and it might be the right product for that application. It's pretty messy/slimy stuff though, and I suspect its silicone content is off the charts. Be careful what you get it on...hard to wash off hands, makes the floor/driveway *really* slippery..it's just kinda nasty stuff. But I do still like it for some jobs and I think it works well for what it is.

I generally prefer to wipe it on as opposed to spraying it, just because of the mess-factor and the chance of overspray. You do *NOT* want to get that stuff on the paint/glass/wheels/etc.

Accumulator: Thanks!! Usually I don't have a problem with wells after I degrease, scrub and rinse them out...but these just wouldn't do what they were supposed to! They looked dirty no matter what I did. Thanks for the help!! I will probably order some just to see if it works!!

I have also used the Under Carriage Spray. It's really not that messy. Use it lightly, and it works great. It is a little thick, so I have changed to Adam's version of this..... It's lighter in mass and doesn't sling or feel messy.

I guess what I am looking for is something that will turn a "seemingly" dirt wheel well into a dark/black one.

It might be just the thing for that. If the Adams stuff works similarly while being lighter, it might be worth a try.

I just ordered some Adam's......got my fingers crossed!!

If you get a chance, let us know how it works out. Never know...I might use up all my Griot's and want to try something "cleaner".

I have found that for plastic wheel wells , nothing beats Super Sheen by Auto Glym . If you pre clean the wheel well with a degreaser and allow to dry , you can spray on a 50/50 dilution of Super Sheen and water mix . Allow it to dry and you get a fresh clean finish that does not look oily .

Like I said, I had never had any problem with any other product I had ever used! Once I get the Adam's stuff I will contact the customer, apply the product and get some pics!! Thanks for all the help guys!!

I agree with Accumulator--Griot's Undercarriage Spray is very nice, just don't spill it anywhere as it's very slippery and try not to get it on you (that's not very pleasant either--I usually wear latex gloves). Also, make sure to clean the surface well first (I use Meg's APC 4:1).

If you're looking to experiment, the Griot's is a great product. You will not be disappointed.

I'd spray outdoors in low wind conditions. The stuff tends to be a bit oily and some will drop off the car and onto the ground.

I haven't tried this, but others comments on using products like Armor All (in an attempt to use their supply up) and seemed to think it worked OK.

I got a sample of the Adam's stuff, and it's not bad. It leaves behind a really glossy look, which is a bit much for my tastes, but others seem to like it...definitely "wet" and "black" are two words I'd use to describe it. Durability is suprisingly good. The scent is sickening sweet. Bottom line for me - I've since used it on a couple of customer cars (and trucks...where the view of a detailed wheel liner really makes a difference - but I'll stick with Z16 residue on my own vehicle.

Mose, I've had the exact same thing happen with my Sequioa's wheel wells. The Zaino tire and trim product (the "Z number" escapes me right now), does a fairly nice job of restoring the look without too much shine. It also doesn't attract dirt/dust like alot of silicone based dressings do. CD-2 engine detailer (if you can find some) works well, too. But again, I *don't* like much shine; I like the looks of clean, deep black, no shine.

You would want to use either of these products after the wells are completely clean.

I have the GRIOTS and the stuff works awesome IMO. I tried it in a pump sprayer and found that didnt work well at all (mist was either too fine or too much of a stream) I then put it in a good quality spray bottle and it works awesome, especially for those tough wheel wells that are in rough shape.

corythecarguy- Thanks for mentioning the AutoGlym. I hadn't considered that one, and I do often like their stuff.

Yeah, on the very rare occasions that I dress the wells/etc. of the drivers, the Z16 is usually what I reach for. If only because it's usually sitting around readily at hand anyhow. Works pretty well, but it also pretty much washes off the next time I wash the vehicle (hence my seldom bothering to do it).

Heh heh, I'd be scared to death to spray that stuff outside :nervous2: Low wind? Even if I thought I had *zero* wind I bet I'd somehow get it all over the place!
