Hello All!!

I'm new to the detailing thing and to DetailCity. This site rocks!:yourrock I bought a 1999 Ford Windstar that has the grey side moldings and bumpers. I already tried Mothers Back to Black, it didn't do anything to it. Didn't even shine it! Does anyone know of a product that will give me a deeper possibly black color to it. It's molded plastic that isn't painted as far as I can tell.

Thanks!:help:

Let me start by saying welcome to the site from Sonoma County CA

I would start with cleaning the plastic...I like to use a soft plastic brush with some all purpose cleaner (apc) mix this with water 10 parts water to 1 part apc....then wet the panel, spray on some apc and brush lightly to remove all the dirt and grime, rinse and dry

The product that I like to use is Poorboys World trim restore..he is one of the sponsors of the site so you can get that threw him...the way to apply it is, spray on a foam applicator wipe the panel very even, then with a clean towel buff that area so that it picks up any residue and makes the product even, this will also keep it form becoming a dust magentic.

other products that you can get over the counter is Stoners Trim shine, its a aerosol can spray on and then buff to even the product.

Maintenance of plastic like yours is key, as every time you wash the car its going to remove some of the product, so you would be reapplying this every 2 to 3 washes, depending on how often you wash and conditions of how its stored and driven

also just remember that the grey plastics just don't revive quite as well as the black ones ...but don't be afraid to put on multiple coats of what ever product you try, especially if it has dried out ;)

ps ..welcome to DC :howdy

What he said.

I used to use Mothers but quit due to the fading of the black. I put on a coat of PB Trim Restore and wiped down. I waited a couple of days and saw it was fading so added another coat. This took several applications before I reached the point of what I felt was total restoration.

Buy some 1" and 2" sponge paint brushes, spray on the Trim Restore and then wipe and buff.

Good luck. Happy detailing and above all welcome.

Another plus for trim restore. I just started using this the other day and its fantastic. It really does a great job brining old faded trim back to life.

+1 for PB's Trim Restore or for an OTC product try Turtle Wax Ice liquid( the stuff is crap on paint but works good on ford gray moldings).
:welcome:

Welcome to the site!

I've tried Megiuar's Natural Shine Vinyl & Rubber Protectant, Mother's Back to Black, and Poorboy's World Trim Restorer. IMO, the Poorboy's product is by far the best.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.
