Good Enough or Not?????

Beemerboy

Just One More Coat
I was working on a Chevy Suburban this weekend, burgundy in color....paint was in decent shape from the swirls stand point....so after washing and clay....I used SSR1 with a blue polishing pad on my rotary....worked that real well....in the light I could barely see any swirls left......so I went straight to EX-P by hand...The finish was great IMO real deep looking gloss from the metallic....I was happy and so was the customer.

now the question is

Should I have polished again after and added a glaze then EX-P....that's what I usually do...got me to wondering if some of those steps are necessary with every color and detail...I wasn't trying to cut corners more than deliver back a good finish.....The SSR1 with the rotary really brought the finish to where I wanted it....using a polish on top of that would have seemed redundant.

Thanks

P.S.
Doing one of those Suburbans is like cleaning a small condo....LOL

Seems like that answers your question. What one person thinks is great might not be at the same level of quality to another. Knowing what I know about you and your work would lead me to believe that it looked "good enough." :)

How does polishing with SSR1 have anything to do with Interior Auto Care?

Being a smart*** :D

Seeing your 5 Series in person makes me believe that the person you did the detail for either had no idea what the "swirls" were, or if they're a returning customer they expect better from you :)

Outta cusrioisty, what year Suburban was it, or body style? I know that I did a maroon/burgundy 03 Tahoe a while back that had minor swirling. applying Ultracoat Wax via PC really "masked" a lot of the swirls. GM metallics seem to be easy colors to work with

"I was happy and so was the customer"

-That's what counts most. Pride in your work, and a happy customer.

I agree,

Suburbans/Tahoes are a work out -especially the roof!

You do the roof?????

Just kidding I always do that by hand because of the roof racks its a real bear

I would surmise, since you're asking the question, that you feel you didn't do enough to satisfy you even though the customer was.

If this nags you then do it differently in the future. If you have indeed decided it was above good enough then repeat the process in the future.
