GMC Sierra dashboard peeling ??

I've got an 04 GMC Sierra 2500hd ext cab 4wd, etc. It has 17,000 miles on it. It's always in the shade in the garage. I also keep Aerospace 303 protectant applied about once every 3-4 months.

Seems that GM paints their dashboards. Mine is now peeling up after it was in the sun for 4 days when my wife and I drove to GA. So this brings me out of my lurking mode and here I am.

Since 303 was applied, I was a bit suprised this happened since 303 is water based and not silicone.

Does anyone have any experiences in this or could shoot some advise my way.

Don't feel bad, my wifes 2002 Olds Alero is doing almost the samething..cracking, un-gluing etc...Started at around 25K miles...Called GM and gave me the run around....

I know exactly what you are talking about - I used to own the exact same vehicle in gun metal grey and now, coincidentally, I am working on this very same vehicle (even same color) this evening. I was steaming the vents (the long narrow ones on the dash right where it meets the windshield) and noticed a little of the grey coating come off, exposing the raw (black) plastic (fortunately it is in an inconspicous spot) and I said to myself..."I better take it easy on this one." Not the best plastic and vinyl, that's for sure.

I don't think the 303 will help or hurt it (I don't put too much stock in the uv-protective mumbo jumbo, even though I use it exclusively). I simply think you have a defective coating/dashboard, especially if it's primarily in the shade!

I have an 01 GMC Sierra that is my DD and has sat outside ALL its life. I've never used anything other than very diluted Simple Green to wipe the dash pad, followed by a water-only damp cloth.

I have no peeling, discoloration, cracking, fading, etc.

I would say that either you have a bad pad, or the sun baking the chemical caused it to react in that manner.

I've seen original Armor All wreak havok on dash pads in the hot direct sunlight.

Should easily be a warranty issue though.

After LOTS of reading it seems that I'm not the only one with this problem. I can't believe how many people have this problem yet they continue to make crap *** parts.

I'm very disappointed that this is happening. Ive had more problems out of this truck in 17,000 miles than I had with my old 02 ZR2 that I beat the snot out of every weekend mud bogging int he woods. lol

I guess the extended warranty is on my list to get verrrry soon.
