Glass

What do you guys use on your outside windows. Just got a new windshield . Anyone use rainx? The Klasse says its not approved for windshields{sounds like they don't want to get sued}Anything else I could put on there to protect it?

Funny you should post this. I just finished cleaning the windows on my wifes 2000 Toyota 4Runner. I have had great success with Stoner Invisible Glass. It really cleans them well especially the inside junk as well. I finish off with some RainX.

I am not a big fan of Rain-X. It can cause streaking and smearing. Also it can leave a haze on your windows if you have to use the wipers, and can degrade your wiper blades quickly. I much rather prefer a nice crystal clean winshield with nothing like Rain-X on it.

I use 50/50 vineger/ Isopropyl alcohol solution and topped with Zaino (Z2/Z5 than Z6). I polish the exterior glass with a paste of "Barkeeper Helper" cleanser if needed prior to the vineger/alcohol solution. The Zaino works like RainX in terms of H2O beading. I can not comment on rain and wiper effects, car is never driven if low pressure in within 200 miles of my home.

2-3 times a year I use Zaino Glass polish followed by Z-5.

Weekly maintainenance is done with a slightly damp MF followed by a dry terry (can't wait to try ultra-suede). Any lint from the terry is removed when the glass is completely dry with a clean MF.

I find that having a polymer on the glass negates the need to use stuff like Stoners as long as you clean frequently. Also, the slickness from the polymer reduces linting. According to someone else on this forum, regular use of ZGP will do a better job at removing all the old film on the interior side of your windows and subsequently will not allow vapors from your dash protectant to re-cling to your glass as easily.

Once in a while I will use Stoner's if the windows are pretty dirty. But then I'd follow that up with a coat of Z.

I happen to use Klasse on my windshield and both side windows. I have been extremely pleased with the gloss and reflectivity that it has given the glass, it really does make a difference.

I wonder what the negative effects of Klasse on a windshield could possibly be? Car is not driven in the rain, maybe they are referring to wiper use/rainy conditions, and not just speaking in general terms? Interesting.....

I use ZGC on all the windows of all my cars about once a year, then follow up with z1,5.... I like the way it looks, and the rain beads great! I think that it helps witht the frost up here too...?

Arctic White

The directions that came with my Klasse says, Klasse has not been approved for use on front windshield. Its listed under tip #6. They tell you do do the sides and rear but not the front. Strange isn't it. Does anyone know why they would state this about the front windshield?

RainX sux... I have tried Liquid Glass and Zaino Z2 on my windshield. While I find it excellent for the side and rear glass, I find that the wipers rapidly degrade the polymer coating on the windshield and leads to some smearing after a while. Some people don't use their wipers with them coated, but I find that I need to wash the bugs off. They tend to smear more with the coating on.

Last treatment I gave the windshield was Zaino Glass Polish with a PC and left it just like that. The glass repels water, but not quite as good as with the Z2 coating, but there is no smearing with the wipers. I use Eagle One 20/20 with a plain old terry cloth for fast and easy maintenance. I used to use Stoners, but find EO less prone to smudging and leaving a haze. Some say that EO imparts a "RainX" like effect which causes water to bead. I am not sure if it is the Glass polish or the EO, but the water does bead slightly....not as much as RainX or Z2. Trade-off....

Can you Say LAWSUITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT...........

thats why they do not want it on the front windsheild because it probably could effect the wipers.

I think STEVE uses it though

I tried AIO on a windshield before, it just smears all over and leaves a haze :down. I ended up stripping it off with lighter fluid.

bigboyhf, I agree 100%.

You can treat all the other windows, but if you do the windshield, your asking for trouble. Big trouble, trouble in River City. Trouble with a Tee that rhymes with Pee and stands for Plenty!

Save yourself, run don't look back, just keep frigging running!

Reach for the light, don't do it. Fight the urg to coat the windshield.

I feel better now!!!

I think (hope) that I will be okay with this one, as the car isn't taken out if there is a chance of rain at all (yes, it's a garage queen).

I do have to say that I like the gloss advantage that the SG gives on the windshield when competeing at a show. Getting caught in the rain would really stink, though. :(

I am very happy with AIO on my windshield. I wet my mf applicator after I finish doing my car and scrub down all the windows (so I use very little). They bead without haze and I've had no problems.

I get that smearing too. I thought it was carnauba that I accidentally got on the front windshield, but I guess it's the Z.

I've limited the use of these products to the side and rear windows. I try to keep the windshield absolutely clean. Perhaps PPG's AquaPel is the magic bullet for external glass surfaces ... I'd like to try it anyway

High Noon, I don't use SG on my windows, don't feel I need to, but you can use SG on any non-porous hard surface, glass, plastic, metal, anything. :)
