Hello All,
This is my first post here on Autopia. I decided to post this topic here because I know that it's home to car detailing enthusiasts such as myself. Anyway, I've been wanting to get a clear, honest answer on the following. A friend and I detailed my 2007 VW GTI this past October before I put it away in storage. About halfway through the process, he noticed what appeared to be a "film" on the exterior of the windows that washing the car didn't seem to take out. Now, the only thing that I can think of that caused these water spots or film was washing the car while it was hot out and in partial sunlight. I did not dry the windows quickly enough, which most likely caused this film. Having hard water in my area doesn't help either. Now, my friend decided that the best way to get this film off was to take a heavily used piece of aggressive clay bar and rub on the windows until it would come off. Now, before anyone flames me, I am a novice detailer at best, so I just went along with what he was doing, not thinking much of it. As we finished the detail and I drove out of the garage under the florescent lighting in the parking lot, I noticed what looked VERY similar to the marks caused by windshield wipers on a car's windshield after a long period of time. These marks were on my windshield and also my two front side windows. Oddly enough, I could not find ANY of these marks on my rear windows or rear hatch glass. I'm guessing I didn't find any because my friend didn't rub the clay on them as hard as the other glass. So, I tried the old "fingernail test" and could NOT catch my nail in any of the marks, they seem extremely shallow but still visible under the right lighting condition and angle. So, now for the questions. Is the ANY "glass polish" that will remove these very shallow marks on my windows? I have heard good things about 1Z Glas Polish, I use other 1Z products with great success. Will this polish also remove the remainder of the water spots/film on my windows? Obviously, I am considering replacing the effected glass, but that is definitely a last resort at this point. I apologize ahead of time for the lengthy post, but I really want a clear cut answer to this dilemma once and for all! Thanks...
