Gilmour gun soap ratio ?

Hey guys just wondering how you figure out how much soap to enter into the gilmour.

I tried it yesterday with 1z but I used quite a bit and would like to have a more accurate way of measuring.

Once I figure out a way of doing it, im going to do a test for all the shampoos I have like I did last time but this time for the gilmour !

JJ

2 oz of carwash soap diluted with 30 oz of water.

set it to the 2nd slot from the left for a moderately dirty UPPERs of the car.

set it to the 3rd slot from the left for wheels and lowers.

I mix about 4-6 ounces with enough water to fill up a gallon jug, and then fill the foamgun from that. I usually use the weakest dilution setting, but will crank it up for really dirty panels if I feel the need.

Jokingly,

I call fibber, you know you use dawn and only dawn straight from the megalomart jug.

slow foam, or simply using more than 2-4 oz of foam per wash.

Generally the 2-4 oz of foam will last me 1 set of wheels and wells, the body work, and the following car's set of wheels and wells.

Foam gun can save you quite a bit in car soap costs. The key is knowing how your soap reacts to it and washes with it.

I generally use, CG maxi sudsII or Megs GC. The megs is 4 oz of soap to 28oz of water, while the CG is 2 oz of soap to 30 oz of water.

What do you mean by slow foam?

I use 1z perls, and use 4 ounces per half gallon, I can't remember honestly what ratio I use on the gun since it has been a while thanks to winter since I have used the gun (I think 6:1) :o That gets me a whole car.

Heh heh, well..I *do* buy Dawn in megalomart ("paging Hank Hill!") size jugs and I have been known to use it nearly straight on service loaners that're getting a quick once-over.

ZaneO- IMO the biggest potential issue from too much soap is that it might be hard on your LSP. And that's not all *that* likely with some LSP/shampoo combos.

..Foam gun can save you quite a bit in car soap costs...

Unless you wash the way I do, in which case you'll go through shampoo at a pretty alarming rate :o About 1.5 foamgun cups per wash, plus a wash bucket (or two if I want to make it really user-friendly) with another ~3 oz of shampoo. And that's when I don't somehow let the foamgun cup some unscrewed and waste a bunch cleaning the floor :o

n2_space- Noting that I've never used Perlz, that sounds like a mighty strong mix. Not that there's anything wrong with that if it's not compromising your LSP...

Lower amounts ddin't seem to produce a lot of foam, perhaps it is my water, water pressure, or maybe perls just doesn't foam well :nixweiss I need to try some other washes to see what they do.

Yeah, there are a lot of variables that factor in...and IIRC Perlz isn't a "high-foaming" shampoo.

Thanks guys I had a wee go with Hyper wash tonight it worked pretty well but I need to wait untill saturday to get the report written up on the various soaps.

Well accumulator I found the exact ratio for each soap and what setting the gilmour would be on to achieve a good foam, all a "tad" more scientific than my last attempt. I find the gilmour doesnt dwell as long as the jet wash foam bottle. Have to wait till saturday to see. :D cant wait!!!

Heh heh, you're putting a lot more thought into this than I ever did (and that's intended as a compliment) :D

But then with my wash technique the foaminess/dwell time/cling-factor isn't really very important so we're probably coming at this from different perspectives.

FWIW I suspect that a lot more people use the foamgun in ways where those issues *will* matter, so your findings oughta be helpful to most foamgun users. And I'm always interested in foamgun-centric stuff anyhow..

Well thats me came up with all the solutions I will need and I even have it on an excel document which I can email to anyone interested. It lists the soap solution needed for the gilmour, a karcher or other pressure machine (the flow rate can be edited) and whatever size of bucket you use.

i.e. Gilmour used at 10:1 with hyper wash needs 21ml of solution

Jet Wash working at 128:1 needs 96ml per 300ml

A 20L bucket like the chemical guys one with grit guard needs 50ml of solution.

This is the minimum needed you could add to this to gain a super lubricated wash. lol
