Gettting paint off of badge

Since I started visiting this forum, I've been looking at my car differently. I noticed that the chrome (?) letters "Volvo" on the driver's side front fender have some paint on them. The hood and front fenders were painted for cosmetic reasons before I bought the car. I guess they did a sloppy job at the lettering. How do I get that paint off the letters?

So, I would guess that after I tape around the letters, I use a cotton swab. I dip the cotton swab in lacquer thinner, squeeze out most of the liquid so it doesn't drip, and then rub the letters with it. Does that sound about right? BTW, where do I buy lacquer thinner? At a paint store?

Sounds good to me.

Usually a paint store, hardware store, or a large chain home center should have laquer thinner.

some poeple with f150's put acetone on our badges. The paint came off really easy. No problems with any of us at all.

There was just a thread put up by intel1486 about this. I saw the thread yesterday but can't find it right now.

I saw the thread about acetone. It was for removing wax. It was made me think of posting the question. Acetone is the main ingredient in nail polish remover.

If you can't get the results you want or don't like how they come out you could always replace them, pretty straight forward to do that or remove them entirely and replace them with side markers from IPD. I've always thought the black backing plate behind the lettering just looks faded after a couple of years. Good luck with them in any case.

Thanks. I'll check at the Brickboard to see if anyone knows of something like that in Canada. I hate having to order stuff from the U.S.

Sorry Taxlady, I've seen you on the BB and I guess I thought you would have known, A8 was kind enough to help you out. You can check here, www.eurosporttuning.com for the side markers too, EST is in Ontario and they are also a little cheaper there.

Thanks for the link. I'm pretty new to owning a Volvo. There's lots I don't know yet. ;) I had a look at the badges in the sunlight and there isn't any paint on the letters - the silver colour is just wearing off. So, I guess new ones is the best way to make them look nice.

Uhh... no... it was on removing the black paint from the F-150 logo. The thread title was very misleading.

Taxlady,

Welcome to owning a Volvo, I hope it's a good experience. I was in my garage last night going through my collection of things Volvo related and realized I have a set of badges from when I put the side markers on my car. I'll never use them and they'll sit in a drawer forever, you're welcome to them if you think you might be interested. They are like new and it would be a good way for them to be put to use. If you want them e-mail me through autopia and I'll send them to you free of charge, I'll pay the s&h, couldn't be much. You would have to get the adhesive however.
