Getting rid of "Orange Peel"

How can I get rid of the orange peel that plagues my 4runnrs finish? I have an 05 with a dark red metallic paint and the orage peel is horrible.

I have a PC, but I am not a pro with it. Can it be done with a PC or do I need to take it somewhere to have them use a rotary?

Please advise! Thanks!

Jason :thx

half of this statement ^ is true. wetsanding is the only way but u cant say that the clear is too thin. the only way to know for a fact how much clear you have is a paint thickness gauge

Nope. You have to sand down the hills and level the paint to the valleys. Polishing does it too to a *little* extent but it is not visible.

I agree with other posters. Sometimes the art of detailing is learning how to do everything...and then taking a step back to preserve the finish down the road. For that reason I don't worry about those last 10% of microscratches either.

A paint thickness gauge DOES NOT tell you how much clear you have. It tells you your total film build. Primer + base + clear = film build It's your GUESS how much of that is actual clear coat.

Yeah, I'd rather have thick, healthy clear than smoother clear that's not as thick. Even my Audi A8 and S8 have terrible OP and I just live with it; I don't want any failures down the road.
