Getting new to me 2023 tahoe(ceramic ?)

I’m looking at a few this weekend I probably will end up with one. I have my eyes on a 2023 with 22k miles.

Anyway, it will be my wife’s daily. I hate washing and waxing vehicles and want as trouble free maintenance as possible.

I can get the car coated with 4yr ceramic for 2k or 8yr for more. I didn’t ask but guessing $1000 more?

Would you guys do the 8 or the 4? The pros for the 4 is that the car will get buffed out on 4years when it’s time to recoat. The 8yr will be a long time so swirls will probably show.

The car is”sterling grey metallic” so I’m guessing it won’t show swirls so maybe I should get the 8?????

I plan to wash the car once every month.

ReaperHWK06- I'm guessing that neither you nor your wife will really care whether it gets marred up and looks "swirled", right? You both will just want it to look decent in the "20/20" kind of way ("looks OK from 20' away when it's going 20mph"). Note that most normal people will think that's *PLENTY* good enough for a daily-driven SUV!

With the possible exception of white, IMO that's the best you're gonna do with what is planned (*NOT* intended as criticism!). The Sterling Gray metallic will conceal flaws better than a dark color like black/dark blue, but I caution you to have realistic expectations,. Just FWIW, both my wife and I can clearly see even light marring on our silver vehicles, and we find it bad enough that we can't accept it. We *can* (and have ;) ) accepted such flaws on white. But that's just us.

While I have no good evidence for this, I question whether *ANY* Coating can last 8 years on a regularly-used vehicle. Have they had that specific coating in the field, under observation/evaluation, since 2018, providing evidence to back up that claim?

Gee, sorry the above seems awfully negative, seems like I'm always a wet blanket on your threads :o

Anyhow...between the two options, I'd go with the 4 Year one, and even then I'd sure ask about what they say constitutes "still OK" vs. "needs a free redo".

Well things changed quick. Went to see that 2023 and it was being sold as I walked in. Then went to another dealer with a 2023 and that sold that morning. They seem to sell quick.

Ended up with this brand new one. Way more than I wanted to spend but holy crap it’s nice.

I’ll get the front end PPF and the 4 yr ceramic.

I thought you would like this New 2026 Chevrolet Tahoe RST for $87329 on Autotrader http://atcm.co/S2PVDP/2D71F840.

Even has air ride and magnetic ride shocks. When you exit the truck it lowers it lol. My wife loves it so I’m good.

ReaperHWK06- Gee, things *did* change fast! That sounds great :) Heh heh, it's about timey you had a quick, satisfying vehicle experience what with everything you've gone through with 'em lately.

Called up the detail shop. I told them I wanted to PPF the front bumper, mirror caps, door cups, and rear bumper. Also coat with 4yr ceramic. They gave me a “winter special” price but it’s still damn expensive.

I picked a pretty high end place this time and probably paying 20% more. But I know they will do a great job. They just finished up filming and ceramic a 2026 rolls Royce ghost. If it’s good for that guy it’s good for me!

If they put my truck on their insta I’ll post it here.

Well one reason for this Tahoe is to tow my hellcat. It has the max tow package which is nice.
Sooo, I "assume" this Hellcat is "towed" for drag racing purposes??

As far as PPF, do you get some kind of written guarantee/warrantee with it relating to life expectancy or discoloration?
The same paperwork could apply to the coating.

Yeah it’s all the XPEL stuff. 4yr gaurantee in the ceramic and 10yr on the film.

Yes I tow the hellcat to race events to keep the miles down on it and also because I will be using Q16 race gas. Also if the hellcat blows up I need a way home lol.

I just picked this truck up. Wow. I’ve had cars filmed before but they did an amazing job. I can’t find one edge. It’s the best I’ve ever seen IMO.
