Getting by with just a PC

Porkanbeans

O RLY?
Though a rotary will make quick work of nasty polishing jobs, putting money toward a purchase of one is not practical for me right now. So, it looks like the PC will see all the polishing action for the time being. I know a lot of you guys detail for $ and only have a PC; what are your go-to products that remove/hide swirls with ease and with great results? I just received Hi-Temp's Light Cut Swirl Remover and Heavy Cut Leveler and am eager to try them out. Poorboy's SSR 2.5 was awesome, but I just ran out of it.

Thanks.

I currently just get by with a PC. But I'm gonna make the jump to a rotary. Time is Money and I'm tired of just getting by.

Anyways, a gallon of Optimum Car Wax should be your first buy. Optimum Polish is a good polish but takes too much time w/ a PC. I like to use Meg's #80 & #83 for basic details. I find all most all of high temps products to be great. HT heavy cut is doesn't take as long as Optimum to break down but you might have to follow it with LC on darker vehicles.

You mean the spray on stuff? Do you use it as a standalone LSP? What kind of durability do you get from it?

It can be used as a stand alone, which is how I use it and I get around 2 to 3 months in durability.

Most of my regulars though get a coat of OCW after every wash.

I've been using a PC for more than a year now after detailing 10 years by hand. My next jump will be to the Cyclo instead of the rotary since it is more aggressive than a PC without the learning curve and risk to paint damage the rotary carries when you first get one.

I'd go with Meguiars #80 or Optimum Polish as your main swirl remover and maybe Poorboy's SSR line if you have to work in the sun. If you need an aggressive polish, Detailer's Pride Super Swirl Eliminator and a burgandy Meguiars pad is a pretty stout combo, although SSE does dust a bit. Finishes down nicely though. I just got a sample of Optimum Compound and it seems pretty decent too, and almost a complete absence of dusting. Leaves the paint looking really good, even with a burgandy Meguiars pad.

#80

Great combination of mild cutting and decent hiding. After using the Hi-Temp stuff, one last pass with #80 should get you ready for the wax.

I'm looking for something that will cover up what ever little swirls I leave behind. I can't always get them all out with the PC, so I'd like to at least glaze them in.

That's why the #80 can be such a good product.

I used #80 on a car with hard clear, so hard tha the #80 did only minimal correction. Looked pretty good. I went over it with a AIO-type product that had mild cleaners. The cleaners took off what the #80 left behind, and a lot of marring "reappeared". This taught me that the #80 does a fair amount of filling, more than I would've thought.
