Getting a PC soon but need a polish for a black car

This autopia bug has finally gotten into my system and i'll go buy a PC this weekend. After spending 20+ hours on my blue car last time i figure it must be worth it.

Anyway I'll be working on a black car this time with a PC. The car is one year old and it's been badly scratched and marred from normal washes. Plus the dings, scratches and scuff marks on bumper. I know my #80 will not cut it. But I can't decide what to get. Are all these just the same??? So should I just stick with Meguiars and get #83?

3M PERFECT-IT II RUBBING COMPOUND FINE CUT 39002

MEGUIAR’S BODY SHOP PROFESSIONAL DUAL ACTION CLEANER POLISH MEDIUM CUT #83

3M PERFECT-IT III RUBBING COMPOUND 05933

POORBOY'S SSR 2.5

For something not as intense :dance

3M FINESSE-IT II MACHINE POLISH 39003

3M ONE STEP CLEANER WAX

1Z PP

MENZERNA INTENSIVE POLISH

POORBOY'S SSR2

What should I buy (which brand should I pick?) I think the car is pretty bad even though they are not deep scratches but there are way too many :nervous: (is it really bad???). I don't have the experience to judge. :lol

get them all you know you want to :D Ummm I personally would get DACP and menzerna FPII. That should be a good combo for your wash swirls. or skip the FPII seeing you have #80 which is a good follow up polish to DACP. IF they are really bad swirls I would get Menzerna powergloss and then move to #80 and see if it removes the hazing or not from the powergloss. If not a intermediate polish will be needed such as DACP or Menzerna IP.

39002 & 05933 are teh same for all intents and purposes . If you use 3m rubbing compound , you should follow with 3m machine glaze .

39003 is only VERY slightly less abrasive than the 1st two listed . Like if you wanted to go from yellow pad with 3m RC to a orange pad , 39003 would be a good product to use there for cutting out extra fine swirls without taking paint down more than needed .

After that machine glaze and blue pad all the way to remove anything those two left behind

P.S. I doubt you'll be removing swirls " easily " with a PC , but I only use a rotary so what would I know about PC's really .

My own personal car had some dealer inflicted swirls which I have managed to remove most with #80 but it wouldnt take out them all. I am going to give SSR 2.5 a try on the rest or maybe the Merzerna combo- will be intersted to see what route you take.

Optimum polish is the most versatile polish on the market right now. I would recommend you buy it first. Use it for all your needs initially and examine the results. I think you will be more than satisfied with the results produced by this polish. You will save money to boot!

Menzerna IP with cutting pad, Optimum polish with polishing pad followed by Z-PC Fusion (polishing pad) if LSP is Zaino.

Works great for my black vehicles.

I'd go with one of 3M's milder RCs, but then I haven't tried Optimum's stuff. I prefer 05933 over 39002 but the former is getting hard to find so I'd also consider the new PI-3000 stuff. If you use the 39002 be sure to use a good mask as its dust is carcinogenic. They do work about the same but 39002 has a *little* more cut and 05933 finishes a bit finer.

You could go from 05933 to #80 if you really work the 05933 until it's fully broken down (but not longer, don't let it dust). I used that combo on the black rent-a-Suburban and the two products work well like that. But note that I had to use the rotary on the Suburban for the first pass or two.

If you want a different product to use in place of the #80 I'd see if you can still find some 3M PI-III MG (05937). I used the 05933/05937 combo on the rear hatch of the MPV yesterday, and it worked great. I used the PC with 4" pads, didn't even need the Cyclo, let alone the rotary.

If you're gonna be using a PC as opposed to a rotary (or even a Cyclo) you'd better get some 4" pads.

Uh...I am just taking Anthony Orosco's great advice.

So Optimum seems to be a great product after all. :up But how abrasive would you say it is? #80 is 4/10 and #83 is 6/10. I don't want to jump from #80 to something that's too abrasive.

Also, I know you are suppose to do things progressively and step up the agressiveness of the polish slowly but what about stepping it down before the sealant? How would you do that?

Now that I have my polish (optimum), glaze (already have #81). I need a sealant that has no cleanser so i won't take off #81 and I can layer it each month. :woohoo: Everything will be follwed by S100. Is there a point to apply sealant and S100 then apply sealant again with S100 a month later (sealing the S100 with it).

A good claying , then polish with Optimum and the appropriate pad to remove whatever swirls and what not you may have , then a good polish with Poorboys Polish w/Carnuba once youre sure the paint is clean ...

I think Poorboys EX w/carnuba would work great as a sealant after that for s100 both under and over it .

Oh an J.J. respecting someone and knowing that they KNOW what they are talking about , and admiring they come into the little guys threads is hardly an issue in my eyes ..

Like i said J.J. the gheyGhey - ScottWax the great has spoken ...
