NC is definitely on the high side but think they do a good job of maintaining them unlike other states.

Looks like Pa. is the highest and nothing gets fixed. The same pot holes were still there 20 years after I left.

I knew we were among the highest in PA, but I see we're solidly in first place, 4 cents higher than Taxifornia!

are tax is average. dont let capital hill see that they will surely raise it. We also pay a local excise tax to our town every year for the current value of any vehicles you own. and for large trucks you pay registration fee of 20$ per every 1000 pounds of registered GVW, plus an additional over weight fee for anything over 58,000 pounds add additional 60$ per 1000 pounds.

One good thing about NJ. Shell Vpower Nitro Plus 93 octane can be had for $2.39 I saw regular for $1.89 today.

yep. Go CA! We're #2 in gas tax! And have horrible roads, insane traffic, and I think we were just voted #1 in worst state for business.

Yet people want to go to California. There must be a lot making a living on the other rich people there.

Funny how little correlation there is between gas taxes and overall gas prices.

CA state plus fed is $.6075 and the price of gas averages $3.47

PA state plus fed is $.70 and their price at the pump is $2.58

FL state plus fed is $.5482 and they pay $2.37

The difference in tax between FL and CA is only $.06 but the price at the pump difference is $1.00.

Gasoline Tax

Tax is obviously a factor, but higher taxes don't really seem to have as much effect on total price as you'd think. Seems oil companies will charge all they can in any given market, taking less profits where the economy won't support higher pricing and going for the gusto where it will.
