I'm installing some new garage lighting and am wondering what the best way to go is? My electrician said that most detail shops he has done have some lighting installed on the wall as well as the ceiling. Is this true? SHould I really be putting some fixtures on my side walls?

yes...for if anything it will help you see how your polish is working, or where you applied wax...

jw- This one is probably well-worth the dreaded SEARCH, though I always hate to suggest that. We really have discussed shop lighting to death and this is something you oughta get right the first time as it's expensive to go back and change it later.

VERY short version: Yeah, lights on the walls and ceiling. Get more than you think you'd ever want and have the different banks of lights switched individually so you can adjust things. And note that fluorescents are *terrible* for spotting swirls/marring, so get some incandescents/halides/something in addition to the fluorescent ones just for that.

And no matter what you do, you'll still find halogens/etc. useful.
