After alot of dissapointment and people not returning phone calls and those not willing to write GI I have finally found a company here in Chattanooga, TN that provides awesome garage insurance.

www.agencyinsurancegroup.com

Columbia Insurance 573-474-6193

The company they use to underwrite is Columbia, I am sure they provide national coverage in all states. I have received coverage for my personal car insurance also coverage while towing my trailer. I got coverage for Pick-up and delivery and coverage for my trailer from theft or damage. It also covers my garage equipment and chemicals. It is great no more taking chances for $1400/yr. I paid $235 down, it has a $500 deductible in the policy. This will be a great advertising plus to customers as well. :xyxthumbs

If you need information please PM me and I will share the contact information that I have with you. I was able to drop my regular car insurance b/c it is now included in this policy.:D

Nice to see a positive post on this subject!

I have concerns about the many part-time detailers who are not insured.

You know who you are, and I suggest you give some deep and substantial thought to the issue.

If you are sued for a major issue, and uninsured, it could be concieved as a felony!

Think it through...

Never heard of that , any info to back this info. As for the part timers unless they are making over $600 they don't need insurance nor would it be smart to spend more then you make on just insurance. Second if the part timers and doing the work at their homes they can get a rider on the home owners policy. Last and certainly not least , I have garage keepers insurance and guess what it covers , nothing notta. Say I was to sit in a customers car with a razor blade in my pocket and cut the leather , it's not covered. Considerd neglegence , same thing if I burn throught the paint with my buffer. If I pick up a customers car and total it , their auto insurance covers it not mine because they have given me consent to drive the vehicle. What it does cover is my supplies and products and if someone where to get hurt in the shop thats covered , it's a big scam if you ask me , thats why I'm getting an umbrella policy to cover everything.

I certainly understand the cost side to having insurance, it took me a year to get to a level that I could afford to be insured, I would have done it sooner had I found the right person and the right price.

I may be incorrect but my understanding is you can not get a riders on your renters insurance, I have renters insurance through Allstate and they would not cover my business. Also you would have to own your home to get a riders on home owners not everyone owns their home I myself rent.

You may need to look at your policy , my garage keepers insurance covers my complete garage operations and auto garage accident operation for $300,000. It covers getting sued if you screw up and someone comes back to you, it covers employees driving customers cars, etc.

There is no scam to smart insurance coverage and anyone in the business with out it is at risk for variables they can't always control. Also if you drive a customers car wheter or not you have consent is pointless, are they going to sign a conset form to let an insured business owner drive their car, I don't think so.

Simply put when you can afford isurance, get it, use it to your business advantage. Alot of people will trust you with their car but when push comes to shove you'll take the heat. You drove knowingly uninsured. Get it to cover equipment and theft also.

autonova , I agree with you , you make very vaild points. As for my coverage , I've been up and down my policy and that's the only coverage I could get period , I had two accidents about 4-5 years ago in my own personal car nothing work related and I was denied insurance for my business when I came up for renewal. I finally found a company that would write me but this is my coverage. Also realize I'm in NJ , where insurance is a scam , I had the two accidents one my fault the other not. Total paid out around $15,000 for the one that was my fault. I paid $8500 a year for three years after that accident , total money I paid $24,000 so the insurance company still made money on me. So long and short I don't like insurance and even though I have it I will never use it , I would rather pay out of pocket and keep my shop open , becasue if you have one claim on a garage keepers policy in NJ you are droped and deemed uninsurable for aleast three years and possibly alot longer.

What ever happen to my car while it is "in your care, custidy & control" is your resposibility. If you get in an accident driving my car my car ins. will pay to fix my car and will then go back on you since you has control of my car.

You can buy ins. to cover accidents that happen to something you are not working on. Ins. is not a warantee of your work. If you slit a seat cover cleaning it.No coverage. If the blade is in your pocket when you sit down its covered. Negligence is not excluded. However any work you do and screw up & get sued is also not covered as the ins. is not a warantee.

Usually you pick the amount of coverage you need to cover the value of the cars you are working on. You can probably afford to replace your detailing equpt. but can you replace a car if you drop a match and burn down the garage and burn up the customers car you have in the garage.

Your homeowners ins. does not cover any auto related problems and it is not a coverage you can add.

Yes, I do sell ins.

I am not sure I understand what you are trying to say here? My insurance does cover my negligence and damage I may cause to a vehicle. Also I am covered against any retaliation a customer may have about an undiscovered damage.

Let's not downplay any longer the importance of being insured in this business if you do this full-time and can afford it.

Been gone a few days....Yes, negligence is covered.(Its not excluded). Damage to a customers veh. & a suit because of if it is covered. However it makes a difference what kind of damage there is. If you are sued because you burned the clearcoat polishing - No coverage. If you are sued because there is a dent in the bumper - Its covered.

A good example is a TV repairman. If he breaks your TV while working on it there is no coverage. Otherwise I could be a TV repairman and just break everyones TV and the ins. co. would buy them a new one.

Sometimes a claim is denied because of the way it was reported and the circumstances are not clearly understood by the adjuster as its a "fine line" as to wheather you were working on the area that was damaged.

Hope this helps some.....
