My gf has an 04 G35 coupe and the stock pads just dust like crazy. I finally got arond to cleaning her car recently and the brake dust stained the rims and was embedded in some areas. Almost like there is no coating on the rim. First I washed to no luck with scrubbing, then clayed which helped a lot but stick didnt remove everything. Then dilutted a degreaser 16:1 with water and that did nothing really. 95% is gone but what can i try to get the remaining? I used 845 to seal for now hoping to create some type of barrier.

Honestly, wheel acid will be the only resolution (that I use) to remove the etched in brake dust.

After using it, follow up with a standard car wash, polish, and seal.

I just detailed an 04 G35 yesterday with the same brake dust problem. In this case, it was a first time customer of mine and unfortunately the wheels had not been cleaned in a long, long time. The rear wheels were not a problem, however I was only able to get the front wheels about 80% clean.

I explained the situation to the customer before proceeding with the detailing job. She was okay with the fact that I was unable to get the front wheels completely clean. Actually, she said, 'don't worry too much about the wheels, because my husband uses oven cleaner on them and it works pretty good'.

On the G35 wheels, it looks like the outer flat surfaces have a smooth enough surface that is not affected very much by the brake dust. However, the inner, spoke areas are quite different. Those inner surfaces appear to be much more porous, thus allowing the brake dust to get embedded below the surface.

It is what it is and it is not good.

About the only solution would be to use a powerful hydroflouric acid based cleaner. These products can be dangerous, so extreme caution should be used. Remember that mild acid based cleaners (not hydroflouric) are more effective on non-organic soil such as brake dust. Degreasers and APC's which are usually Alkaline are more effective on organic soiling. You could try to use a mild acid cleaner to clean them further, but probably not perfectly. One recomendation is Hi-Temp's HT-710 wheel cleaner combined with agitation. Finally, buy a set of Porterfield pads. These pads produce very little dust and are much better than OEM pads.

are you guys talking about the 6-spoke G35 wheels? i have them on my maxima and i haven't clean them in a long time...now i fear i can get them clean. i bought a bottle of armor all wheel cleaner from Target cus it was on clearance...i've used simple green on the wheels before but its been 4 months since i cleaned them because my wife and i just baby girl. i've been neglecting the car washes since she was born 4 months ago. will the simple green and armor all help with the cleaning or am i SOL?
