Fustrated with PAC

When the light shines on my car, in certain areas i see holograms...or some weirdness like that. It looks weird.

I used 2 coats of blackfire cleaner, 2 coats of BF wax and its still there...

That sounds like marring in the clear or the Blackfire Protectant layer. If you apply another layer and the marring is still there, its probably in your clearcoat. You will have to strip those areas and do a thorough prep ie SMR, PPCL or even more abrasive products. Once the marring is gone, reapply BF Protectant.

Did you use a PC when polishing? If not what kind of applicator did you use for the BF polish? That may have caused the problem.

Sounds familiar. I have the same "hologram" thing going on in my paint. When I picked up my Pro5 from the dealer I noticed 2 days later that in one small section the light seemed to create a hologram type effect. I'm guessing that the stupid prep guy created some wierd swirling effect in my clear. At the time I wasn't aware of what exactly the wierd effect was, and I wasn't sure whether it might go away after a good cleaning. Well, it hasn't.

So, I've learned to deal with it, although I'll run over the section with my new PC and #9 2.0 soon. I don't have my hopes up though, and I'm not going to do any risky high abrasive polishing to attempt to fix it.

Is your car black? I know exatcly what you are talking about... i've battled with those over and over... i've tried meguiars, pinnacle, BF, just about everything (zaino is next.. see if Z5 can't get them) From what i can tell they are small marring in the paint... usually in the direction you buff. They are really close togeather and that is what gives the hologram effect. Here is as close to a pic as i have ever gotten of them:

It appears this is what is known as spider webbing. Most people simply learn to live with it... i've made it my goal to get rid of them. I think it might somehow be related to my buffing teqnique or QD teqnique. And for me the problem was only in the BF or Souveren i was using... when i removed that they dissappeard a lot. They are always gone the first layer, but as soon as i start messing with it they come back. I am going to try zaino because you can layer z5 and z2 in any order. So when they do come back i can just use more Z5 (which covers stuff like that up suposedly) and then put z2 over it. I hope this helps!

Dr Jones,

I'm not sure that I see what I would consider the "hologram" effect in the pictures. All I see is good ol' swirl marks. Maybe I just don't see it in the pic.

The condition that my paint has is definitely not swirl marks (or not in their common form). When I'm looking at this hologram mark on my car it changes shape a little bit when I change the angle that I'm looking at it - similar to how a hologram can change depending on the point of view and the light source. With swirl marks, they don't change shape when changing your point of view - they may disappear from view when you change your point of view, but they don't change shape.

Hopefully that is a more clear explanation. I'll try to get a pic to post, but right now my car is dirty as heck after the snowstorm we got here yesterday:mad:

crap.. I noticed it when i purchased the car... and thought to my self bahhh nothing some good ole 3M IHG or other cleaner cant fix... ohh well... looks like im screwed =D

I cant believe the blackfire cleaner didnt work. I used MF to apply AND remove it.. =(

it is like swirl marks... but really light ones. As i walk around the car the bright shapes move and change... from what your describing i think it's the same thing. Those pictures are sort of a close up look. When you look at the reflection in the sun close up does it look the same as my pics? Those pictures are showing a really small area of my paint. like a 2 inch by 2 inch square. What do your holligrams look like when you get really close to the paint and look down the side?

I had the same holograms on the bimmer when I picked it up. They had put on a sealant and told me I wouldn't have to do anything for a year.....yeah right. I stripped it off with PPCL and that did the trick. But if it's really bad, and in the clear, then you probably need to be a bit more aggressive. Get yourself a PC to start with, then use either SMR or FI II. These are not really "aggressive" but should get the marring out.

Your other alternative would be to take it back to the dealer, but if their detailers put those swirls in, they probably don't have a clue how to get them out....

If the 3D effect was from day one I bet the dealer used a rotary and did a bad job and made you some nice swirl marks.

Do a seacrh for a BMW hood that had swirl marks from the dealer. It is a great thread that has before and after pics.

Intermezzo posted it again in another thread.

thanks for the comments guys. I now know that I'm not alone...:)

I'll try to get a pic of my hologram and see what it looks like up close. Its hard to tell from the pictures that Dr. Jones posted as to whether they look like mine or not. But the way you describe it is bang on.

I've got a new PC, but I'm not too eager to start grinding away at that section hoping to eliminate the hologram without busting the CC.

I dont have a PC is there any other options left for me? Should I try Klasses cleaner? or 3M IHG?

Is there anyone here in NYC that would like to take a shot at my car on a weekend? =D

that's a weird site. you can do the stereo pair effect much easier than that. just take two pictures on your computer and arrange them side by side. then cross your eyes and focus on the middle image. viola! 3-d image. much better than a cube scratched into a piece of lexan.

Are these the "holograms" you speak of?

When I bought my 240 back in August, it had a bunch of really dry tree sap on it, I made the mistake of bringing it to a detailer (well, a bad one) for a "fresh canvas" so to speak, I love cleaning my car and spending hours waxing and cleaning, but the sap just wouldn't come off for me. I got my car back with these kinds of marks all over it. Well, at least most of the sap was gone.

Holograms -- I know exactly what you're talking about. I think I've heard them called "laser beams" before, too. Anyway, they're just really, really light swirl marks -- nothing a quick pass with SMR (or maybe even PPCL) wouldn't take care of. FWIW, I've never been pleased with the results I've gotten when applying any abrasives on my car by hand. IMHO using a PC with abrasives is the only way to go (although my car's clearcoat is notoriously soft).

made a order to canada on the 8th. got the shipping quotes and replied to their email. got responses and stopped as soon as i said ok. never got any billing for the shipping charges. WHERE IS MY ORDER. ITS BEEN 10 DAYS ALREADY. I SENT OUT OVER 6 EMAILS!!!!

There is another thread about something similar. There was a storm that knocked out alot of their computers or something. I am sure if you are patient you will get a response. Or just grab the phone and call. That is what I would have done after I had sent an email and no response. You can get things solved alot quicker by grabbing the phone instead of making a thread like this.

Agreed! Storm killed PACs server and computers. They are trying to get things back up online. Relax it will get there. Just call Monday morning 8am Est.

It sure doesn't take much to frustrate people lately. It seems the internet has raised our expectation of service and speed to a point that when one little glitch happens we point fingers and cry bad service. PAC has a great record of service. Give them a call. I'm sue things will be fine with your order.
